Le Chef Posted March 10, 2023 Author Share #4 Posted March 10, 2023 A little more Edgar Miller. The Frank Fisher Jr. Studio Houses at 1209 N. State St., Chicago designed by Edgar Miller and Andrew Rebori in 1936. A Chicago landmark as of 1996. (Leica Q2) Welcome, dear visitor! The two architects collaborated on many notable landmarked projects in the Moderne and International Style. Thanks for posting.

The shame is that many more buildings of possibly landmark status were torn down in the name of progress. I'm going to keep exploring and photographing as I go.

Unfortunately, this is true of many American cities. Quite often what goes up to replace these architectural jewels is boring and ordinary.

This building, which I believe would be called art moderne, is very similar to one in Madison, WI, that was built as a clinic in the late 1940s or early 1950s. It was called the Quisling Clinic, named for the physician who had it built. It was designed by an architect friend of his name Lawrence Monberg. In 2002 it was converted to apartments. I believe the Fisher Studios were considered to be “Art Moderne”. It was that lovely streamlined look that was used on trains and eventually the Airstream trailer and certain cigarette lighters (Colibri?)
