andybarton Posted October 31, 2007 Share #1 Posted October 31, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) After the bang I spent all afternoon, trying to catch the two cartridges as they just start to fly from the gun, complete with the smoke, but it's almost impossible, as you can't tell exactly where the instructor is going to hold the gun to do so. Never mind - I got a "kill rate" of 92%, so it wasn't a bad day Welcome, dear visitor! jmr Posted October 31, 2007 Share #2 Posted October 31, 2007 Andy, well done - the shot works, with or without the cartridges.
azzo Posted October 31, 2007 Share #3 Posted October 31, 2007 It's nice being a Baron. You can practice all sorts of sports without bothering your neighbours.... ....as they're miles away. A lovely capture indeed. Azzo
stuny Posted November 1, 2007 Share #4 Posted November 1, 2007 Andy - You ended up with an excellent, action, in situ portrait. I'll be he loves the image.
PhotoArchival Posted November 20, 2007 Share #5 Posted November 20, 2007 I really liked the 'Bang' shot, but love how you got personal with this one! Amado
Guest maddin Posted November 20, 2007 Share #6 Posted November 20, 2007 Not wanting to start a discussion about necessary deer control and the likes I still like to express that I feel deeply irritated associating shooting with "sports & leisure time". In this context I wish to express my further irritation when reading through the comments on this picture questioning "what has love got to do with it"? It cannot be the language barrier

andybarton Posted November 20, 2007 Author Share #8 Posted November 20, 2007 As I stated above, this was clay pigeon shooting. Nothing furry or feathered was harmed in the making of this photograph. Apart from some egos of the people who do it regularly, maybe. The "kill rate" to which I refer above was a percentage of clays that I hit during the afternoon. I would never go shooting at anything with a pulse, but I might go along to a shoot to take photographs of what goes on. "Love" is mentioned in the context of "lovely capture", "I bet he loves the image" (he hasn't seen it, so he can't comment), or "love how you got personal with this one!" Nowhere does anyone say that anyone "loves" blasting living creatures out of the sky or putting a bullet in the neck of a deer. Not everyone who shoots, shoots living things. robsteve Posted November 20, 2007 Share #9 Posted November 20, 2007 I followed the Olympic.org link I posted and was suprised to see the 1912 Olympics had a running deer shooting competition. Martin may have been making a point I didn't understand. INTERNATIONAL OLYMPIC COMMITTEE
andybarton Posted November 20, 2007 Author Share #10 Posted November 20, 2007 That was 100 years ago (almost). We did a lot of things then that we wouldn't do now.
robsteve Posted November 20, 2007 Share #11 Posted November 20, 2007 Andy: I don't know if you noticed, but you posted in the Prophoto colour space. I think on the Macs the browser may be colour space aware and display it properly. On a PC it is pretty desaturated.
andybarton Posted November 20, 2007 Author Share #12 Posted November 20, 2007 I hadn't - let me convert it to something more PC friendly. Thanks. It would be a big step forward if someone were to write a colour space aware PC browser.

stunsworth Posted November 20, 2007 Share #16 Posted November 20, 2007 The colours are a lot better in the second image. I hope you gave those clay pigeons hell, nice to know that nothing was killed in the name of sport - I assume you've heard the story of the shotgun 'challenge' at the Paris Olympics <grin>

Guest maddin Posted November 21, 2007 Share #19 Posted November 21, 2007 Here is a deer picture, just to stir the pot Shot with a R8, 400mm f2.8 and AGFA RSX 100. Rob, what an outrageous provocation! How can you shoot these cute little bambies??? You probably poison pigeons in the park as well (not to mention pushing grannies off the walkway). ... but seriously now: Andy: i did not realize that you were shooting at table ware and still have trouble finding hints that you indicated this. My interpretation of the circumstances shown in the posting did not include this possibility. However, your explanations clearly distances you from the if-it-bleeds-we-can-kill-it fraction. Rob: there was no hidden point intended. I just dislike guns and their glorifying depiction as such.
andybarton Posted November 21, 2007 Author Share #20 Posted November 21, 2007 It was posted immediately after this one http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/sports-leisure-time/37450-bang.html but they have obviously been split up in the forum order now.
