I thought you all may like to know this

it can be downloaded from the Phase One site and is a free upgrade

so far I find it more stable than the beta 1 version & it loads nicely over the beta 1 version as well

I think Phase One does the best job with M8 DNG conversions

New feature in C1 V4 Beta 2: Lens Cast

Anyone seen this, it does'nt seem to work yet, but could this mean we can be able to adjust

for cyan/magenta drift with this feature...?

Was this feature not already in place in C1 Pro v3.77 (phaseone digital back version) where one could calibrate the lens with the phase one back?. AFIK this function is not enabled in SLR versions of the application.

Ok, i'm not a C1 user so it has probably been there the whole time, hehe..

But they should really make this setting available for others than digital backs, since

reading about it's functions it would benefit specially us M8 users, it would be like having cornerfix implemented to C1 which would be great...:-)

no

this sets the color for the whole image

the magenta problem only affects limited portions of the photograph & needs to be spot fixed

best to use an ir/cut filter

it was available in earlier versions of C1, btw

Can someone tell me if this new beta still drops files all over your hard drive like beta 1 did. In beta 1 all the temp files got placed in the corresponding folder the images are stored in. I want to place the temp files in ONE location and not on the drive that I have my images stored on or on the C drive or the drive you have the program install on, just like C1 3.7.7

Ed, still the same. It creates a CaptureOne folder with 2 subfolders: Cache & Settings in the same folder as the images.

I'm playing with the beta2 and find it works well.

What I need advice about is buying the PRO version when it comes. Several persons here use PRO. I can see what the differences are on Phase One's website but would like to know from the monsters what they use that sent them to PRO.

Thanks in advance

That's a killer for me. I'd like to try the new beta but this file dropping is something that should of been taken care of from the start.

I complained on that to the Official beta Users forum but my voice was not enough loud:(

At least one improvement for me: the icons are less microscopic....

Bill, my main reason to go PRO a few years back was the Mac/Win support with a single product key. I needed both platforms, so 2x LE or 1x PRO was my choice. Next, in the past, LE did not support professional DSLR models like Canon 1D series, and had a limited batch queue (20 max IIRC). This all had changed now and the future v4 will have even more features that you find only in PRO currently.

Not sure if this helps you. If you find the additional features not worth the money, stick with the cheaper version, same quality and speed! You get 80% features for 20% of the money. Upgrade is always possible. And you can try it yourself in 30 days. If I use LE (if have license keys from the M8 and several Sandisk cards) I always seems to miss certain options (tagging, IPTC metadata, camera profile selection per image) but I can get the job done.

Some who worked with Beta 1 said they did direct comparisons and that image quality was inferior to 3.7.7. Has that improved?

Funny statement, since I only recall those who reported improved image quality, myself included :D

Thanks Paul, that is very helpful. I am using the LE license that came with the M8.

I have found the speed to be reasonable (for a beta) but cannot find Spot Healing Tools (available in Lightroom, Aperture, and Bibble) nor anyway to do B&W conversion (other than simple desaturation). Am I missing something?

Also, the Highlight/Shadow controls work very well.
