jpattison Posted August 10, 2023 Share #23  Posted August 10, 2023 (edited) Stephen, HensleyC's lens is a mark 1, (11205) with external hood. It was intoduced as a  2 Cam. (can be converted to 3 Cam) Your's is a Mark 2, (11212) made after 1980 with a 55mm filter thread. It was made as a 3Cam, but later ones were R cam only and finally ROM. It does not require an external hood. The sunken lens was deemed to have enough protection from flare etc . mbphotox Posted January 16 Share #24  Posted January 16 I want to buy the macro adapter for mine and cannot, for the love of me, tell which version of the adapter I need. 14256 or 14198? and what do they actually look like?  It's clearly the older one (pre-55mm filter thread) but it's also a 3-cam version (2xxx serial indicating it was added later on?)  Welcome, dear visitor! mokona Posted January 16 Share #26  Posted January 16 (edited) the 14256 can be used with any Leica R lens I think, and you have to change the aperture on your lens with the 14198, you have to change the aperture on the adapter and not on the 60mm elmarit. mokona Posted January 16 Share #27 Â Posted January 16 Advertisement (gone after registration) and you can also use the APO extender 2x. Or combine APO Extender and macro adapter I think

As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members!  That's exactly where I got my info from, thanks... but it's not what I need, you know?!  Because, according to the wiki, mine MUST be a 2-cam (see serial numbers info below).. but it's clearly 3-cam..  Leitz just couldn't be fkn bothered to indicate the model number on their items. (there's 5 different model numbers for this lens, but it looks like there's absolutely no way to tell them apart aside from the switch to the E55 filter thread between the first 3 versions and the last 2.) based on the wiki, I have a 2-cam lens.. which is wrong.. and based on the Wiki, one of the adapters is needed for the first 2 out of 3 older versions.. whereas the newer adapter is needed for the 3rd of the old designs and the 2 new versions of the lens..  now, information on the wiki and in these posts is very contradicting, because people say the new adapter should work? but the wiki says it won't?  and there's no way to know qhich adapter is which, bc Leitz decided to not fkn print item numbers on their products.. the macro adapter for the 100mm has the same name.. is the design different? who knows! Â I understand now and just ordered the 14256 (49 bucks as opposed to 24 bucks for the older one.. That is correct - and I see the 3rd cam on your lens also.
