I have a lovely chrome M4-P that I got early this year.  It's nearly mint.  A real gem!  I've wanted one of these since I first saw a picture of one on Camera Quest.

The RF is great in close to close-medium distances.  Once you start getting beyond 8-10ft the vertical alignment is clearly a bit off.  I can still focus like this but it's not great.  This is the only issue this camera has.  Is there any DIY way to adjust this or is there anyone in the USA without extreme wait times or prices that can do this for me?

So many repair places seem like 6mo out in backlog and some charge 300+ just to look at an RF.  I'd love to get this one issue fixed and continue enjoying my camera.

Don't procrastinate. Get it done right by a known professional and then you won't have to fuss about it being "slightly off". I've been around the block on similar issues over the years, some I adjusted on my own, others I shipped out.

If it is only off at certain distances the adjustment is not completely straightforward. If you have to ask here, don’t and have a professional do it. Make an appointment to send it in and use the camera up to that time. Tha work itself is basically  whilst you wait, and should certainly not have more than a week turnaround.

Ok, I wrote an email to Sherry to see the wait times.  Anyone else people can recommend?

DAG (Don Goldbeg) or Youxin Ye (YYE Camera) would be my first choices over Sherry, although I've used her occasionally as well on items others had too long a waiting time.

You can't expect a professional repairer to perpetually shunt all their more complicated and lucrative work down their schedule just because something easy comes along, it doesn't work that way. A small adjustment takes the same administration time as a full CLA, so a full CLA takes precedence because it is more cost conscious. And if you find one that can do the work immediately assume they have no other work on their books, and why? I suggested a video to look at for adjusting the vertical alignment when you asked this question on Photrio (Leica forum comes second), but again it comes to 'if you have to ask don't do it'.

Whatever man, I'm not asking to be brought the the front of anyone's line.  I just don't want to be without my camera for 6mo because of the vertical alignment, which is why I'm asking for advice...not a lecture.

I’m pointing out reality, if you think that is a lecture you have no grasp of it.

What a real charmer you've turned out to be.  Luckily Youxin sent me a nice email with a link to an adjustment tool and instructions on how to DIY it.  He also told me how I can send in the camera and what his rush fee is.  What he didn't do was give me some snarky remarks, you should take notes.

So you don't think charging you extra for a 'rush' job is cynical, or does it confirm what I said about a repairers schedule and costs? But that combined with showing you how to do it yourself is code for 'can't be bothered'. But I guess you can also refer to the video link I sent you in the first place.

I also have a silver anniversary edition M4-P like new in the box with all the papers. If I were to send it in, I would use DAG. He communicates very well and does first rate work.

Good to know!  Glad there are so many great Leica techs out there.  This is why I bought back into this system.  Sometimes there are growing pains when you acquire an older body but once you get it working, you're good for years on end.
