cozmopak Posted February 14, 2023 Share #1 Posted February 14, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) Took this with Leica M10, 50mm Summicron. I like how my son’s face is framed by the lines of the fence and the reflection in the puddle. Welcome, dear visitor! fotografr Posted February 15, 2023 Share #3 Posted February 15, 2023 (edited) I think I'd have more appreciation for this if it had been framed with the child on the left side of the image. I'm not a fan of having subjects leaving from the edge of the photograph. Better to see where they are going than where they've been. More space in front of a subject rather than behind is the accepted norm and we can and should break the rules otherwise we risk becoming too convention bound. Alternative interpretations could include that the lad is near to the end of his journey, has arrived safely, etc, etc. Either way, I don’t think it matters that he is close to the edge of the frame. David I don't consider myself "rule bound," but was just stating what I didn't like about this composition. Some will agree, some won't. There is no right or wrong, just personal preference. If there was something of interest in the area to the left of the child, I'd probably be more accepting of the composition, but there isn't.
