So fun! Unintelligible gibberish until I realized that I actually understood what he was saying! So that was Norwegian.

haha. I had the same feeling, but as a non-native Icelandic speaker...I get about 80%. Norwegian is quite gentle compared to Icelandic. I keep thinking "why is he saying "femm" instead of "fimm" (for five) and things like that, where it is the exact same word, just with a different pronounciation. And then in the middle there on a occasion there is some totally unfamiliar words.

But the video is basically saying that the lenses are an alternative to the APO Summicrons if you want a compact and lighter lens at the absolute highest quality, and you can come down to the Leica boutique if you want to try them. You can save 10,000kr getting them in a kit and so on.

what‘s a little bit curious, here in Germany all 4 kits are in stock (35/50 with SL2/S) - but no single lens; the  really want to sell the kits!

The kits are used to entrain new users to the SL-system. Good for Leica (more users, less SL2x before SL3x enters the scene), good for the Leica community in general, but a little bittersweet for those curious/interested in testing/using the non-APO Crons on existing bodies. I guess individual Crons eventually will become available. In Norway, it is stated that a batch of the new Crons are on the way.

What is even more curious is that there don't appear to be any image samples taken by the new lenses available online…

I guess we have two options:

1. Perhaps Leica know these lenses are "just ok", as their Panasonic counterparts

2. The whole Leica marketing department is on vacation

yes, that's right; and: nothing on Youtube, dpreview and all others
(yesterday I saw a short advertising on Instagram)

Maybe Leica's marketing isn't as influencer-centric as others?

Every "click on my affiliate links below" presenter just put-out a review of the Canon's new APS-C, does that mean it's a better product?

It's a more important product, of course. It replaces two camera lines that have been best-sellers in their respective markets (Rebel/Kiss and EOS-M).

Really? There are plenty of influencers talking about the Q, the M11 and the SL2s, but no one talking about these new lenses.

Sure, some influencers cover big Leica releases. Not so much in the SL lineup, but certainly any new M or Q. I find the M reviews rarely go beyond reading the specifications, mentioning that it's really expensive, mentioning that it's really expensive again, and complaining about rangefinders. Time wasted, basically. The Q2's been out so long that I don't remember the coverage. Have any influencer done a deep dive/long-term-tests, or was it just first-day coverage?

Back to your question: this was a soft launch, not a big Leica event in Wetzlar. I don't see much benefit to jetting influencers around the world. Apparently Leica doesn't either. It's not the sort of product that you buy on impulse, from links. The influencers will get their canapés and paid holidays for the next big release. Hopefully that's the SL3 this spring or summer.

There's barely any info about these lenses anywhere. Leica's own website has 3-4 sample images per lens, all very generic. It's a ghost town.

Compare it to the marketing efforts put into any new special edition of the Q.

Also who cares about influencers, I want to see sample images produced by these lenses, and there's none. Not even Jono reviewed these lenses, but he did review all other SL lenses like the 28 APO and the 24-70.

Got a call from my local Leica shop that they had a copy of the 50 ASPH and "all" the kits but no 35's or 50's for sale without kits yet.
Anyways, I didn't test it thoroughly but did get to play with it for a while. Focus was fast and sure, weight and size were perfect, you really notice how light it is, but doesn't feel cheap, materials feel like other SL lenses....I'm getting one for sure.
Most the shots and crops I took are of the employees and didn't ask if I could post them..Here's a few non employee shots on my SL2 wide open with the new 50mm Summicron ASPH.

The 2 crons side by side

I just purchased the SL2 + 50ASPH kit. Here are a couple of quick (boring) test shots, shots are unedited, except for LR->JPG export, shot at F2

What were you shooting before? How does the 50ASPH compare?
