FN button on my SL2-S is non responsive..? Should I reset the camera?

I'm still learning to to use all the customization features on the SL2-S I obtained about 4 months ago.  Lots of options and more complicated that my customary M bodies...

Everything seems to be working now according to the manual, HOWEVER, but the FN button on the rear (above the MENU, below PLAY) doesn't do anything when I press it.  Just a dark screen.. I'm wondering if there is a problem with the contact and it needs to be repaired, or if somehow I did something to "de-activate" that FN button.

I'm thinking the logical next step is to "reset" the camera to it's default settings and see if that activates the FN button... But if I do that, will the image number on the camera go back to "0" and cause me a headache in terms of the number sequence of my images?

Press and hold the Fn button to see the possible functions, the currently assigned function and to change the action when Fn is pressed. You can change the set of possible actions in the menu.

pressing it should cycle through options, unless its currently set to switch to evf only, then the screen will go blank

I see now my problem - I was just pressing and releasing the FN button, not HOLDING it until the options appeared!  

Learning curve!  Now to set it for my different profiles!
