90 apo cron or 90 apo telyt

the 135 my most often sold focal length (twice the apo and once the direct predecessor). Quality was not the issue, focusing was, even with the 1.25 and a M7 0.85. it is possible though but heck, not my thing.

so i stay with the 90 apo cron and am happy with that. that marks for me the longest anyway, above it is the DMR.

I find the same, I just can not focus the 135apo reliable, plus I find the "guessing" factor (regarding framing and seeing the subject) becomes too high.

75 and 90 for me is allready kind of small in the viewfinder. I like 28 and 50.

With all due respect i don't find focussing on the 135 Apo Telyt a difficult procedure. i love this lens and would recommend it to all wiling to listen.

Another vote for the 135 APO Telyt. I have a similar full range of lenses and I was finding that I would shoot my 75 Summicron as my 'long' lens but was lacking a true long tele. I used the CV 90/3.5 for a while but it lacked sufficient reach beyond the 75/2 and so I'd seldom use it. I picked up a 135/3.4 APO Telyt and it is an extremely sweet lens. The extra reach over the 75 is significant and really helps with compressing distant objects. It's razor sharp and a delight to use. Comparatively lightweight, nice focus action and a worthwhile addition even if not officially 'blessed' by Leica for the M8. Understandably it's also not a short lens so you need to be careful when walking around with it.

As regards focusing, I use a 1.25x magnifying eye piece and also use the 'hold button and over rotate to the right' trick to mount the lens so that the 28/90 framelines come up instead of the standard ones. This is about as accurate for framing at distance as any other lens/frameline combination. I'm probably going to follow the experience of others here and have Leica NJ swap the mount to bring up 28/90 lines as standard.

Thats just my personal experience, that wide open i get more images slightly front or backfocused than 100% in Focus. (I do also use the 1.25 Magn)

Probably you just have better eyes or more focusing experience.

Or maybe something wrong with my lens (but since its sometimes back and sometimes front focus I think its user error).

Also as I said before, not haviong correct framelines and having the "guessed" framelines to be that small I dont think its great for framing & composing.

On a film Leica I was fine with the 135, but on the M8 I find it too much.

To be sincere, me too find that focusing a 135 on M8 is critical (I have a TE, not an AT), but I like so much this focal that I've get accustomed to :

- If possible, close at least to f8

- make 3 shots with "smidge" correction in both directions.

"SMIDGE" : a fine term patented by one of us...
