Identical?

Hi.  Is the D-Lux 7 identical to the Lumix DC-LX100II ?  The reason for my asking is that the Lumix is available, the D-Lux 7 not until next month or so.  Don't care much for the price difference, but do care about built quality.

Do you care about the image quality? In most of the D-Lux the in camera JPEGS were different because of different firmware.
Price depreciation is different too. A D-lux 4 for is now going for 2-3 times the price of the LX-3. It even goes up which is exceptional for a digital P&S. I do not know for sure, but I suspect Leica was selecting the top 10% quality of lenses made for both, so there might even be visible optical performance. Similar differences were reported for D-Lux 5 and D-Lux 6. Of course this is just extrapolation of past models until we can compare the D-Lux 7 with its counterpart.

Thank you very much Dirk, good point re: image quality.  I recall comparing the images from my old Digilux 2 to a friend's Nikon, and after he saw mine, he spent the next two days tweaking the settings in his camera (it came close but no cigar).

I doubt there is any difference in lens performance between the two models. Residual values depend on market perceptions of value. I would say you will lose no performance buying the Lumix. Build quality will be excellent. Leica is losing interest in less-than-fullframe cameras.

On second thoughts…. The EVF is poor,  very poor.  Decided against it in the very last minute.  Got an X100V instead.

But perfectly adequate for framing an image, as has been proven many times. Enjoy your choice. Its what you want.

For someone who liked the Digilux2 that is a strange statement 🤔

I had a Nikon D70 at the time I bought the Digilux2 rather than 'upgrading' to a D300. On the first trip I carried both in my bag because I was afraid the 90mm tele end would not cut it compared to the 200mm Nikon lens... The Nikon was taken very rarely out of the bag, and after this trip I sold it. Even with a lot of work in PP it was not even close. I still use it from time to time.

If you need a worthy successor, maybe try a X2 with a cheap Olympus VF2 EVF. It gets used sometimes even when I have my M9 with me. That says enough.

That was 2005... how innocent and unspoilt we were back then.  The viewfinder of the X100V can hold its own against the SL2, but the Lumix is not something I could get used to.

You are making an unfair and unrealistic comparison. Of course technology has changed.  It no longer suits you. End of discussion

A few years ago I bought from the same person a Digilux 2 and its Panasonic clone the Lumix DMC-LC1 in near new condition. The sensors had already been replaced.

I was able to use these two devices for 2 or 3 years and I did not notice any difference in image quality between them.
The optics were obviously identical. Only the external manufacture of the case differed slightly, to the advantage of one or the other according to the tastes of each.

Unable to keep both, I finally separated from the Lumix, not without some regrets...

Seems like it that the D-lux is being discontinued, no longer on the Leica site and the local flagship store has it listed as out of stock.  Then, the dealer said that there'd be one more shipment of the Lumix end of this month and then no more.
