Advertisement Posted February 2, 2023 Posted February 2, 2023 Hi DrM, Take a look here M11 in the studio. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Photoworks Posted February 2, 2023 Share #2 Posted February 2, 2023 in my experience in studio shoots you may want to control the light. I don't think you would use TTL or HSS. the mentioned profoto trigger is not supported, and the same for godox. but there are way to use it in manual, like many others. AF is the biggest challenge , MF is possible and doable, for some reason I find it easier to focus RF in horizontal mode. Range finder is a challenge with precise framing do to lens blockage . you can't use flash at the same time of EVF, so in case you have to use the LCD and that is not anything I like to do on portraits. You be looking at the camera and not your subject. Tether is a good option in studio
Luke_Miller Posted February 2, 2023 Share #3 Posted February 2, 2023 (edited) Don't have an M11 but do studio work with my other leicas (M ans SL). My studio lights are all manual and I trigger them with Pocketwizards. I prefer this because I have full control of the light falling on the subject and background. I find the best portraits are achieved by modulating the light ratios between main and fill (or reflector) to produce flatterig modeling of the face. I us a flash meter to set the ratios. Like Photoworks I find rangefinder focusing in portrait orientation difficult, so I focus in landscape and then compose in portrait. Welcome, dear visitor! Only the skin is drawn unnaturally too soft. Sometimes less is more.

Below is the original (no skin editing). I always try to produce the most flattering image of the subject. In this case she was wearing little makeup, so in the final version I attempted to create the impression of having been made up by a makeup artist. Welcome, dear visitor! chriscove Posted February 2, 2023 Share #7 Posted February 2, 2023 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) I use the M11 for portraits along with the SL2. I have used the new Profoto connect and it does support TTL and HSS on the M11 and M10M. There is a known issue with it (there is a thread in the SL forum about it) that Profoto is working on. I prefer the SL2 and M lenses because when using the Profoto connect on the M11 you are limited to either range finder focus or the back LCD screen and with very fast lenses I like the Visoflex better. I would only have removed the blemishes here because she has such a soft complexion.

M yes for now it doesn't work on M11, it is inconsistent in TTL -HSS , they are still fixing SL issues. M11 looks like it is totally different TTL metering , I near the trigger works well for the M10 cameras, and so does the godox.
