Red Crown Posted January 15, 2023 Share #1 Posted January 15, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) Having not be used for some years, the exposure compensation lever on my R8 happily adds compensation, but refuses to subtract compensation, either by pushing the lever quickly down or holding it down to clear the compensation set. Turning off the camera does not clear the compensation. Would removing the batteries for some time reset the compensation, or is it "hard written" to the camera? Any other suggestions? Advertisement Posted January 15, 2023 Posted January 15, 2023 Hi Red Crown, Take a look here Leica R8 exposure compensation lever. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
davidmknoble Posted February 11, 2023 Share #2 Posted February 11, 2023 You might need to remove them long enough for an internal battery to also discharge. Certainly cannot hurt to try!
MKHB Posted February 11, 2023 Share #3 Posted February 11, 2023 Take the battery out and switch the camera to on, any capacitor will unload ….

I'm not at home to try. Set the ISO to something other than the lowest setting, say 400. Then when you switch it back on, if it still says ISO 400, you know it did not reset... Red Crown Posted February 14, 2023 Author Share #5 Posted February 14, 2023 Many thanks to both of you. Three weeks was not enough to drain any internal battery, and switching on the camera did not discharge any capacitor. So I've combined both ideas, and have left the R8 sitting at the back of a shelf, without batteries and switched on. I'll report back in a few months!
davidmknoble Posted February 25, 2023 Share #6 Posted February 25, 2023 @Red Crown I have looked high and low for a way to reset the R8/r9. You may want to consider reaching out to Leica and I’ll bet they can answer. Another thought though, have you considered compensating the EV+/- by adjusting the ISO? I.e, if you are +1 you can increase the ISO by one stop. I.e., from 400 to 800, thus offsetting the EV adjustment and the meter should be right for middle gray. Just a thought. Red Crown Posted March 3, 2023 Author Share #7 Posted March 3, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) Dear David, Many thanks for your further advice. I've not dared insert batteries into the camera again since my last post. I'll leave it a while longer. Indeed, as the compensation is at +3.5 stops, I could increase the ISO setting to offset it. Let's see whether it resets and, if not, I may contact Leica or a local repairer (as I'm sure the cause of the lever not working in one direction is because of a poor contact). Many thanks again Stephen
