Great shot, I love the perspective and winterly athmosphere. Reminds me very much of one of André Kerteszs pictures of Washington Square, which he took from the window of his appartment.

Thank you, very kind. I know precisely the picture you mean, it's like a drawing. I love that picture.

I know precisely the picture you mean, it's like a drawing. I love that picture.

I was referring to this picture from 1966: http://timed.sothebys.com/auction-lot/ANDRE-KERTESZ-Washington-Square,-New-York_6984B60AF0/

I believe, when you talk about a drawing-like picture, this picture from 1954, which indeed looks like a japanese ink drawing, comes to mind:

Washington Square, Winter

Indeed a wonderful masterpiece!

My personal favorite of all his Washington Square pictures is also from 1954, Washington Square at Night:

Thanks, Mich - you're right, I was thinking of the wrong one, although I've seen them both. The night scene is a new one to me. There's something magical about snow, there are so many ways you can make an image strikingly different to when there is no snow.

Where I live, it hardly ever snows. You can go a year or more with no snow at all. I do like it when there's fresh snow. Perhaps if I lived in Canada, I might feel differently.

Cheers,

Colin

Same here. Actually we had 2 inches of snow tonight, but it is way to warm(as most of the time) and will probably be gone until tomorrow :(

The legendary Mark E Smith, and his group The Fall, play The Arches in Glasgow, in 2013. Mark E Smith died yesterday, and it's very unhappy news. That marvellous venue has since been shut down, another sad loss.

I shot this from the middle of the crowd on my M Monochrom mk1, and 90mm Tele-Elmarit "fat" version 1. It was wide open at F2.8, and there's no mistaking the fabled Leica "glow" on guitarist Peter Greenway's collar.
