Going through old files and came across this one, shot with Mountain Elmar, and was surprised to see that I used MM1. I had assumed it was shot with one of my thread mount Leicas, and film.

Well after lots of soul searching etc, I've just bought a mint M9M ($3.5K) instead of an M10, and also a discounted 24mm Elmar to accompany my ratty 28mm Cron Asph, and still have plenty of budget left over for my next trip. I'm more than happy.

Jvansmit,

Great photography on your web site.

I noted your first impressions of the M246 were very positive. What has made you go back to the MM1?

Jvansmit,

Many thanks !

After looking at hundreds of photos I've taken, there seems to be more 'meaning' or emotion in my MM1 shots (at least for me). It's a very subjective thing, I know, but worth it in my view despite the MM1 shortcomings. The M246 does have much better high ISO and other features though.

I've got a Q for when I need live view, fast AF, etc.

Always liked the MM1, I tried the 246 but found that the images were so close to those that I can get with my 240's in B&W mode as to make no difference so there was little point for me to go that route.

The MM1 on the other hand has an indefinable quality about it, to my mind like TriX exposed at 320ASA and souped in Microphen, I also like the "granular" look when pushed above 1200 ASA, and I've never felt the need to use fast lenses with the MM1, I like that I can keep it "small" and use the really excellent Voigtlander 21/25/35 lenses and not worry about the lack of wide aperture.
Here's one from last week, a winter's evening in Villefranche de Rouergue, SW France, mildly "toned" in Aperture.

This was with the VC 25 f4 at 1600 asa, ( I think! )…..

Quoting on my own post here!......But just to thank those of you that liked the snap, and to tell you that was perhaps the last shot before my MM1 went on it's way back to Solms again for the second sensor replacement, this time I trust they'll install the new version.

Once again I was offered an "upgrade" by Leica to the 246, ( for a price of course ), I told them thanks but I will stick with the CCD sensor Monochrom.

There's probably a thread on this question but have any of you that have the "newer corrosion proof" sensor noticed any differences between the old and the new? I'd be interested to hear what you have found, if anything......

Cheers!

I love my new 21mm SEM. The lens is flawless so I added some vignetting.

It's not really always this dark here in SW France, but the MM1 renders "dark" so nicely that I tend to take it out more in the evening………This was taken a week ago and currently the MM1 is at Solms for it's second sensor replacement, hopefully this time it will come back with the newer version. I hope too that the "newer" sensor renders like the earlier one. Have any of you done any comparisons between the two sensors?

MM1-1250 ASA, VC 25mm at f4.
