Glasgow - M Monochrom mk1, 50mm Summicron v5

OK, this was a huge lesson for me.  In my opinion, this thread has some of the finest work on the Forum.  And there are two photographers here who stand out, for me, although there are many, many fine photographers whom I do not mean to disrespect by calling out two in particular.  Colin and Lambda.  And this photograph by Colin taught me a lesson.

I have my camera hanging off my shoulder whenever I am out.  But I find that I get in my car, drive to work with my mind buried deep in work or life, and I usually don't see anything.  I almost feel like I have to travel somewhere to find something to photograph, whereas a photographic expedition simply clears my mind of other clutter so that I can see.

But Colin and Lambda, and others on the Forum, see every day as they go about their lives.  Their eyes and hearts are open.  The tones and composition make this simple object an amazing photograph, and I would have passed right by it thinking I couldn't wait to get inside to get warm.

You don't have to go to a war zone, or the Swiss Alps, to make a great photograph.  It's right in front of you if you open your eyes and heart.

I wish Billo101 would start posting again.  While infrequent, I really enjoyed his photographs.

Thanks to all for posting your work.

Just love these moody winter pictures. That goes back to 1971, when I went to the movies to watch Robert Altman's work McCabe & Mrs. Miller, featuring Warren Beatty and Julie Christie. Or think of 1996, the Coen brother's Fargo, another classic.

Well that's very kind, Tim. Thank you. There's some good photography on here, and on the Leica Master Shots pages too. I work as a photographer, and I do love my job. A lot of what I do is photographing people or events, or sport, using DSLRs and using remote flashes and so on. It always has to be done in a certain style, and there is often a brief to stick to. There's a lot of dealing with people involved. A lot of using extreme wide-angle or telephoto lenses.

That's why I like to pick up a Leica M in my own time, and just take pictures for myself. Mostly with a 50mm or 35mm lens. It's fun for me. I like the challenge of finding a picture in the everyday. The only person I need to please is me.

I know a lot of people hate Instagram. I joined when it first started, before it was really a social media platform, before Facebook owned it. But I think it's still a wonderful resource for finding amazing and inspiring photographers. People like Bruce Gilden and Tom Stoddart are on there. Andreas Gursky is on there. The pictures are presented in a minimalist grid formation. You don't have to look at selfies and pictures of people's dinner, if you don't wish to.

If you've not come across these photographers, do have a look at their work.

Anyway, best wishes,

Colin
