john_j Posted March 22, 2013 Share #605 Posted March 22, 2013 Dierk- Thank you for the reply. I remember "good old fashion automatic" well. Set the Vivitar 283 on yellow, lens on f/5.6 and always use Tri-X. Use the Metz 54 pretty much the same way now. BTW, Your photos of the flower are quite impressive! dierk Posted March 22, 2013 Share #606 Posted March 22, 2013 thanks very much, John and more from this endless winter Leica M Monochrom with Super-Elmar 21mm, red filter I love this lens! I still did not find out, why the images after the export from LR4 are not as sharp as the original I reduced to max 2000 pix wide, 100% jpg and low sharpening for screen? Photoskeptic Posted March 23, 2013 Share #608 Posted March 23, 2013 Zebra landscape.MM and 0.95 Noctilux + orange filter. I've never seen a Noct so effective for landscape. This one really knocked my eyes out. Thanks for posting.
thebarnman Posted March 23, 2013 Share #609 Posted March 23, 2013 I've never seen a Noct so effective for landscape. This one really knocked my eyes out. Thanks for posting. That probably has more to due with the orange filter and the lens being closed way down.

MarkP Posted March 23, 2013 Share #614 Posted March 23, 2013 (edited) Really like it Mark. Did you use a color filter? thanks....Peter Thanks Peter & Tri, forgot to write that I did NOT use a colour filter. I think it's really important to realise that contrary to what many write here that colour filtration is not necessarily required to get outstanding photographs from this camera. I find that I can get overall excellent control of local luminance and tones in Monochrom files in Photoshop, including the use of selective highlight,mid-tone,shadow burning and dodging. For this photograph I did create a separate layer to work on the sky, but regardless I would have done this with an M9 file. I'm working on a few more photographs from this trip and will post them later today. Regards, Mark Edited March 23, 2013 by MarkP
MarkP Posted March 23, 2013 Share #615 Posted March 23, 2013 Zebra landscape.MM and 0.95 Noctilux + orange filter. Fantastic photograph. I have also used my Noctilux (albeit the E60 1.0/50) for landscape with great effect, but not yet with the Monochrom. Where was this photographed? platypus Posted March 24, 2013 Share #617 Posted March 24, 2013 Fantastic photograph. I have also used my Noctilux (albeit the E60 1.0/50) for landscape with great effect, but not yet with the Monochrom. Where was this photographed? Regards, Mark Hi Mark, Glad you liked my shot. I agree with you that (despite all the vociferous opinions to the contrary) the MM does not really seem to need a coloured filter, not for landscapes anyway. I have used the MM and the Nocti, with and without filtration and can see no visible difference, but leave the orange filter on anyway. With this shot I did a bit of work in LR4 to bump up the contrast and blacks plus some work on the sky. This particular shot was taken on the Monaro high plains region of NSW, about an hours drive south of Cooma. BTW I really like your NT images as posted above!! MarkP Posted March 24, 2013 Share #620 Posted March 24, 2013 Thanks Dee, I know the area but haven't been there for years. think I may have to take a drive down the Monaro highway with my camera. The drive further South to the Falls Creek area is also spectacular, even out of the snow season! If I may, the last photograph is compositionally great EXCEPT I think you may have killed it with PP . There are blown highlights in the middle (? fields or river, I can't tell) and you've lost most of the information in the sky and clouds. Please repost it.
