huwm Posted January 5, 2023 Share #1 Posted January 5, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) Planning to take 24-70, 70–300 decide each morning which to take out and then rather than than a fast prime take the Q2(same weight) so no lens changes on the slopes
Advertisement Posted January 5, 2023 Posted January 5, 2023 Hi huwm, Take a look here Going skiing, SL2 or S5?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
cwcltd Posted January 5, 2023 Share #2 Posted January 5, 2023 I’m doing a road trip to the French Pyrenees in February; will take the Q2 on the slopes, but also taking a SL2 or SL2-S for hiking/sightseeing (in case the snow doesn’t arrive..)
beewee Posted January 5, 2023 Share #3 Posted January 5, 2023 Don’t think either body will make too much difference when you have a sizable lens on it. I’d go based on ergonomics and familiarity with the haptics. I’ve never shot with the S5 but the SL2-S (and by extension the SL2) plays nicely with gloves. Battery life is fine in the cold. I normally keep the camera in a padded pouch in my backpack when not in use while skiing.
huwm Posted January 5, 2023 Author Share #4 Posted January 5, 2023 I've a feeling the SL2 will be easier with gloves but possibly more uncomfortable than the S5 when i land on it(in pack) as I inevitably will. maybe stick to Q2 actually on slopes.
Pelu2010 Posted January 5, 2023 Share #5 Posted January 5, 2023 I would rather care about the ski ! ☺️ maybe you need gras ski …. or big foot 😂 the q2 is a good choice
Marc B-C Posted January 5, 2023 Share #6 Posted January 5, 2023 Skiing. Enjoy that and take one of the new camera 'phones. Much less painful should someone knock you over! Photos are pretty good to0!
robb Posted January 5, 2023 Share #7 Posted January 5, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) when shooting alpine events in Colorado for the World Cup years ago, I would carry all my gear (and lots of film and batteries) in a backpack and bring crampons, water, etc to hang out in my spot most of the day for the events. I also used shorter skis for aided mobility... If your primary goal is photos then you just need to adjust your ski gear. If your primary goal is skiing then you need to adjust your camera gear expectations. I'd go with the phone or Q2 approach these days and enjoy the time off on the slopes. beewee Posted January 6, 2023 Share #10 Posted January 6, 2023 The iPhone 14 Pro’s main camera pretty damn good when shot with ProRAW. For skiing, I use my iPhone and it doesn’t leave me wanting more. I’ll still take the SL2-S for hiking but that’s a different story.

huwm Posted January 22, 2023 Author Share #12 Posted January 22, 2023 travel snaps only but the 13 Pro couldn't cut it in comparison maybe the 14 Pro could? Welcome, dear visitor! The main lens on the 14 Pro is significantly improved. The 48 MP camera shot in ProRAW has higher useable resolution than the SL2-S w/ SL 16-35 @ 24mm. huwm Posted January 23, 2023 Author Share #14 Posted January 23, 2023 as an aside I found using the Q2 easier than the phone when hands really cold and snowing heavily, felt less likely to drop it I don't really like using LCD either A different case might help, mine's a quad lock to fit on my Cowboy ebike which has protected it from a number of drops from 2m or so

Also, in case you didn’t know already, once you have the camera app open on the iPhone you can use the volume button as a physical shutter button.
