Le Chef Posted December 28, 2022 Share #1 Posted December 28, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm using my wife's 2019 27" iMac 3.1GHz 6-core Intel Core i5, Radeon Pro575X 4 GB, Memory 32 GB 2667 MHz DDR4 and it feels S L O W when processing images from a Q2 and a CL...The computer is running the latest versions of Ventura and LightRoom Classic and latest version of Color and Silver Efex Pro. Photographic files are all stored in SSD external drives. I've played around with the cache but I'm not sure what my next steps should be. Can someone offer suggestions as to how the process might be speeded up? MTIA

dpitt Posted December 29, 2022 Share #2 Posted December 29, 2022 I hope you have an SSD inside? Replace the Fusion drive if present with decent size SSD. Can’t you move the projects you are working on to the internal drive? That should be much faster than external drives on USB 3.0 If 2 and 1 is not possible. Take an external Thunderbolt SSD drive. If 1-3 is not possible. Take 2 external USB SSD drives of equal size and make a soft Raid 0 with them to use them for projects you work on. The i5 is unfortunately rather weak compared to i7 and i9, and I see no way to improve that other than maybe adding 32GB of RAM. But this only after trying 1-4 and if it is still not fast enough

The internal drive is SSD 2. Can do 3. Have two external Thunderbolt SSD drives connected, one which I use for LightRoom projects 5. I had feared the i5 did not have enough “beef” when it was bought… Let me see if #2 makes a difference Many thanks!
