Good Evening,

I've purchased the Leica 800mm f6.3 Telyt-S Lens, i wanted to use it with my SL2. Unfortunately the Leica R -> L  adapter supports R lenses manufactured post 1976.

Does anyone have any idea if its possible to have 3rd party adapter that can work ?

Thank you in advanced

Congratulations on one of the most impressive Leitz optics ever made! I fell in love with lens when I first encountered it at the Leica School in Wetzlar in 1972.

As far as I know, there should be no reason the R to L adapter would not work. I would recommend asking Leica customer care, or a knowledgeable dealer such as Dan Tamarkin or Josh at Leica Store Miami if you are in the US. In Germany, Lars Netopil would know.

This is a Visoflex lens. It was used on the M film bodies with a Visoflex mounted to allow focussing. To use it on the R - L adapter you need the M - R adapter. I have one but think it is pretty rare.

A Leica M-L adapter should accept the lens, but it will not focus properly. If you have a M- L adapter, you can try if it works. It will have a longer minimal focusing distance and the distance scale will not be correct, but infinity should focus with such a long tele- lens, I think. You need to use a visoflex with the mirror locked up in between the SL+M-L adapter and the lens to make it focus properly.  Or find an extension tube of the same length to replace the visoflex.
