triss Posted December 25, 2022 Share #1  Posted December 25, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) I was out walking with the camera (an SL2 with a 24-90 mm zoom mounted) and I fell to the ground and the camera did too and hit the ground. Not very hard but the lens hood broke. When I should start the camera after that I only see the start animation (shows in one of the photos) in the display and then the message ”This battery cannot be used” comes up (shows in the other photo). And in the top display it seems like the date is reset to 2019-01-01. Both displays is only visible for a couple of seconds and then the displays get black again. I have three batteries and the same message appears for all of them every time I start the camera. So I don't think that there is a battery problem. But what can be the problem to start the camera? Is there a way to reset the camera when I can't start it? Welcome, dear visitor! beewee Posted December 26, 2022 Share #2 Â Posted December 26, 2022 Probably some spring contract got over compressed and the camera can no longer read the battery info or get temperature data.

There is a spring in the bottom of the battery slot but I don't think that is the problem. Because everytime I press the trigger and activate the camera or switch it on I will get the start animation and message above. After a few seconds it shuts down again. It seems like the contact with battery and the camera is intact.
Paul2660 Posted December 28, 2022 Share #4  Posted December 28, 2022 Odds are you have damaged a sensor or a similar part inside the camera that has something to do with voltage checking. Time to send the camera to Leica. Hopefully it’s not a major repair.  Paul
Learner99 Posted January 5, 2023 Share #5  Posted January 5, 2023 I had the exactly same problem yesterday. I fell down on a slippery wooden bridge when it was raining and my camera hit the bridge floor. The camera was turned off and when I turned it back on I got the message, “The battery cannot be used” and then the power went off.  I keep trying turning on the camera and the same thing keep occurring even when I change the battery with another one that I have. What a bad luck. I have just spoken to Leica here in Sweden and they say that the camera and lens must be sent in to Leica Germany. So I will do that and get a repair suggestion.
