Will Leica make a 40mm M-Mount Lens?

It means the same, to me.  Since there are no mechanical frame lines for the 40mm using the RF, the inference is that one would instead need EVF/LV for framing.

Not sure to understand the logic either. 35mm lenses with close focus capabilities can be used with no problem on any film or digital M camera down to 0.7m whereas no M-mount Leica camera has ever had 40mm framelines but the film CL. Little chance to see a new 40mm lens then i fear, even mounted on the EVF-M of my dreams, but i'm no Leica .

The point was about Leica’s recent decision to produce lenses that focus much closer than 70cm, not about traditional specs and RF use, film or digital. That’s where the EVF issue arose.

 I don't see Leica selling M lenses needing an EVF to work normally but i may be wrong.

Agreed, and just not to continue this discussion any further; in my view the summicron-c 40 is a brilliant little lens. I have the Minolta version that I used in taking one of my favourite shots. This one:

Nice pic. I like both my Leica and Minolta 40/2 but i dont see any link with an EVF issue either. Making M lenses for both RF and EVF M-mount cameras why not but for the latter only it would surprise me.

None needed an EVF (or LV) for accurate close focusing well below 70cm prior to recent releases.  We’ve discussed this ad nauseam ever since.
