Hi;

I have a couple of questions...

I have a Leicaflex SL2 (film camera) and I only use 3 Cam lenses as ROM lenses obviously won't mount. However, I do have a Leica SL2-S with the R to L Adapter, so I know that if I use the new-style Leica APO extender-R 11269 (ROM version) it will mount onto that.

With that said, if I use the Leica APO Extender-R 11269 (ROM version) on my SL2-S with my 3 Cam lenses, It will probably not transfer any lens info to the camera since the 3 Cam lenses do not have ROM contacts, correct?

If so, wouldn't it make more sense to just go with the previous version 11262 which is either an R Cam or 3rd Cam and attach my 3 Cam lenses to it?

Thanks

I got my answer. The answer is "yes". The 3 Cam R lenses will mount to the APO Extender R #11269 (ROM) or the older, (Non-ROM) #11262, and can be used fully

in Manual or Aperture Priority mode, but the lens data must be entered manually into the SL2-S menu in order for the Exif data to be transferred to the image metadata.

Be aware that - from my experience with the non-ROM (CAM) R-lenses I have - mounting them on an SL2 with the R to L adapter and turning the aperture ring from f4 to f8 or from f8 to f4 will result in one of the CAM levers creating a short circuit at about f5.6 with the adapter electronic contacts, resulting in the SL2 losing it's preset (by the user) lens info and an "Unknown lens" message.

Very annoying.  Leica advised me to permanently "modify" my CAM R-lenses by "removing" the CAM lever.  Of course, I did refuse to choose this drastic route and am waiting for a software solution by Leica, that may come ... or not.

Thanks Stef. Are your R lenses 3 Cam or R Cam? Mine are 3 Cam since I am also using them on a Leicaflex SL2 film camera.

180 telyt : 3 cam

100 macro elmarit : 3 cam

1.4x apo extender : I don’t know if it’s 1, 2 or 3 cam

Then I have a 28-90, 280 telyt and 2x apo : all those are ROM and work flawlessly with the R-L adapter.

Since I also have the M system (and use R lenses on M and M lenses on SL2) I have an R-M and M-L adapter.  Since you can stack  these 2 and there is no electronic connection, I use this combination for my 3 cam lenses on the SL2.

The APO Extender R 11262 is usually an R Cam. The newer version 11269 is a ROM. I have the R-L Adapter, but so far, never had an issue with R 3 Cam lenses when attached to the Leica R-L Adapter shorting out on the ROM contacts and erasing certain menu settings?

Perhaps the stacking of the adapters is the culprit?

Strange as both my 180 telyt and 100 macro have this issue.  One thing I noticed however it only happens when you turn the aperture ring slowly from f 4 to f 8 or visa versa or when you select f 5.6 and let the ring stay there.  Rapidly moving and passing f 5.6 does not trigger the error.  Did you try it in the above circumstances and also are you sure the R lens was manually selected in the menu?

Leica support acknowledged to me they knew about this problem.  They however did not specify what specific R 3 cam lenses show this behaviour.
