I shoot just about anything really from portraits to landscapes, architecture, graphic details. I work for a creative agency and use it pretty much everyday... to mock things up (Print and web, film) etc... Can any one recommend a versatile lens? And anything else for that matter.... (wide-angle... etc) To hell with the budget (if I am going to do this I'm gonna do it proper). Although I will be getting just one lens... (to start with) Thanks very much in advance.. If you had posted this in the M8 forum you would have had many replies by now... To find the perfect lens that is a difficult answer since you will cover from architecture to portrait. Some prefer wider lens to start and some the longer ones. I started with a new M8 in Feb and my very first lens was the Asph Summicron 35mm F2 lens since then I have added a second M8 and the following lens, Asph. Elmarit 21, Summicron 50, AA Summicron 75, and the Elmar-Macro 90. You would ask maybe what would be my very favorite lens.... the answers would be all of the above. Hi Lawrence You say 'to hell with the budget', but I'll assume that you want to keep things within reason all the same... If you are not sure which focal lengths will suit you on an M8 you will need to experiment and I would therefore suggest starting with either a CV 28/3.5 or a CV 35/1.7. They are both very good 'normal' focal length lenses on the M8 format, are cheap even if you buy them new, and you will have no trouble selling them if you don't like them, or if you decide you want to replace them with the Leica equivalent. Most other M8 owners on this forum would also consider the CV 15/4.5 a must-have for wide-angle work. If you do candids or portraits you should also consider the CV 50/1.5, 75/2.5 or 90/3.5. Again, this is a cheap way to investigate these focal lengths - you can always thrash your credit card to buy the Leica equivalent later... You'll need Miliched screw/bayonet adapters for all of these lenses, of course, and a Milich lens hood cum filter holder for the CV 15 - again you'll have no trouble selling these items if you need to. luigi bertolotti Posted October 14, 2007 Share #4 Posted October 14, 2007 You have a new M8 Camera, whish to buy a single general purpose lens, you put attention on budget : given this, here's my thoughts : - (Partly irrational) : a pity starting with M8 and not a Leica lens. - With M8, 35 is the general purpose : go with Cron 35 Asph and you'll never regret. - Too much money ? 28 2,8 asph, almost general purpose as 35 - Have you mentally already decided to spend the money fro the Cron 35 asph ? Think again and buy the 28 2,8 PLUS a CV (21 or 15 or 75) I think you'll receive hereby lot of different advices... ... many of us (me included) like a lot these threads on "what shall I buy ?...." digibob Posted October 15, 2007 Share #5 Posted October 15, 2007 LMG (To start with ) is a variable amount of time ,either way i'm pretty sure it will prove to be shorter that expected. I started with a 35 cron in April -two weeks later the wate was comfotably at home-was it a few weeks later that a CV 75 arrived to be shortly followed by a 50 lux then low and behold a couple of weeks ago the offer of a 90 f2 at a bargain price ? due to it being uncoded ,just couldnt be refused. The wate and 90 mm are getting the most use. If i was starting anew then i would go for the 24mm as a first choice. Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
