In the rush, the M11 and this lovely lens went flying off of my shoulder to the floor resulting in this situation. Lens and camera both still focus accurately, but will be taken to Wetzlar next week Welcome, dear visitor! I plan on returning it to the seller because I’m worried the crack could get worse over time with drastic temperature changes or just from bouncing around in camera bag. Welcome, dear visitor! ELAN Posted December 18, 2022 Share #4 Posted December 18, 2022 Came back to my hotel after a full day of shooting and tossed the camera on the bed. It skipped like a pebble hitting a pond and landed on the hard floor. Luckily the soft aluminum filter absorbed the full force of impact… the brass 50 APO LHSA was absolutely fine without a mark or dent. Irony was that the week before I was complaining in Wetzlar about them making only flimsy aluminum filters instead of solid brass ones. Welcome, dear visitor! Keith (M) Posted December 18, 2022 Share #5 Posted December 18, 2022 Back in Feb 2020, my new M10M with 50mm Summilux-M ASPH slipped off my shoulder and fell onto a concrete path. It hit lens-first, badly denting the hood. Amazingly nothing else was affected. Leica Mayfair replaced the hood for a fairly modest sum. Welcome, dear visitor! I dug out the mount for my long gone Noctilux and shot some pictures of it. Here is the story. Many years ago, probably 1985 or 1986, I was at an Oktoberfest celebration at a local German restaurant long since closed. With me were my wife, several friends, my dad and aunts and uncles. We were all having a great time and the beer was flowing. Having my Photokina M6 and 50/1.0 Noctilux with me as a good Leicaman should, I called everyone together for a group shot. As I focused, I felt the mighty Noctilux slip through my fingers and fall onto the pavement. My heart stopped! I saw the shocked look on my dad's face! He was my partner in the store, and he knew what that lens cost! We were Leica dealers, and technically the Noctilux was "loaner inventory". I thought to myself, I will never hear the end of this! I picked up the lens, which had fallen on its mount. There was a tiny mark on it, but that was all I could see. I remounted the lens and took the picture. A day or two later, I developed the film in the 1 hour lab we owned. The pictures after the mishap came out fine. I ordered a new part from Dave Elwell at Leica New Jersey and replaced it myself. Here is the damaged mount, along with the original packaging from Leica. You have to look really hard to see the damage! Leica lenses are tough! Hopefully, this is the last lens I ever drop 🙂 Welcome, dear visitor! derleicaman Posted December 21, 2022 Share #11 Posted December 21, 2022 Best I can figure is one of my fingers came into contact with the lens release while focusing. Hard to imagine as the M6 has a raised guard around the release. I had never had this problem before or since. The lens was new, so I can't imagine wear played a factor, but looking at the flange where the lens locks on the body, I do see some wear. Jeff Indeed Jeff, I’m glad they managed to diffuse the bomb and nobody was hurt Did I mention they found another bomb in the next days and we were evacuated yet again? My heart would probably have skipped a few beats till I picked up the lens to see the damage 🤯 Glad you got away with a minor dent and didn’t have to hear about it from your dad for years to come 😀 I hope you kept that mount as a memoir … not many drop a Noctilux in their lifetimes and get away with it for cheap!
