Advertisement Posted February 8, 2023 Posted February 8, 2023 Hi Steve Ricoh, Take a look here Brand new MP/M-A/M6 film scratches [Merged]. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!

A roll of Tri-X 400 was included in the M-A "Titan" box.https://www.leicastoresf.com/images/page/Leica-M_A-TitanL10100183.jpg All of the new M-As come with a roll of Tri-X. Not sure why they don't include one with the MP also.
logan2z Posted February 8, 2023 Share #703 Posted February 8, 2023 FWIW, when I bought my M-A back in 2017 it came with a roll of Tri-X. Of course Tri-X in 2017 was like $3/roll. Now that you need to take out a second mortgage to buy a roll I guess the freebies are no more. 2

You get free batteries with the MP instead. What, you want free batteries and a roll of film for $5600!? 😉
Huss Posted February 8, 2023 Share #705 Posted February 8, 2023 I just received a call from a Leica rep in NJ who was very nice and apologetic. He mentioned the techs replaced the pressure plate, but there seems to be some confusion as to when this happened - on the first repair attempt or this one. My repair invoice has no mention of a pressure plate replacement, so I am hoping it is on this (2nd) repair attempt. He will confirm when it was replaced. The techs also fed film through the camera, and apparently did not see any scratches. However, they only used 24 exp rolls, whereas I use only 36 exp rolls. This is a big deal as the scratches appear most prominently towards the end of the film, and so those extra 12 exposures could make a difference. They will test again with a 36 exp roll and get back to me. I do appreciate having the Leica rep call me, and us walk through it together. Fingers crossed.
madNbad Posted February 8, 2023 Share #706 Posted February 8, 2023 Were there changes to the body shell for the new M6? There were so many reports of new parts and changes, I couldn’t remember if that was one of them. If it’s the pressure plate, that would indicate a fairly easy fix. It could be the film is catching a burr on the body. Thanks for keeping us updated.

Except not a single report could mention even one specific part that was changed. Unless by 'new parts and changes' they meant compared to the original M6 from 30 years ago. And not the current MP. Again, those statements seemed to be intentionally ambiguous.

mshchem Posted February 9, 2023 Share #711 Posted February 9, 2023 This is an interesting report, not sure what to make of it. Apparently, according to this, Leica relocated old equipment to Portugal?? This is according to The Robb Report https://robbreport.com/gear/cameras/gallery/genius-at-work-m6-leica-1234797734/ This is the only time I've heard of this. If machines have been moved problems could be expected. Again first I've heard this.
Mikep996 Posted February 9, 2023 Share #712 Posted February 9, 2023 "This is the only time I've heard of this. " Then you didn't read post #477 or you would have known about it a day and a half earlier! 🤣
mshchem Posted February 9, 2023 Share #713 Posted February 9, 2023 I'm out of the loop. Another question may be foolish. I wonder if the repair people have to all share the same 24 exposure roll of film to check their work? 😊
lmans Posted February 9, 2023 Share #714 Posted February 9, 2023 So it seems like the scratches are on the M6 and now mp. Why hvnt we heard about MA scratches, if the inners are the same?

Most probably because they are embarrassed enough that they ordered the camera w/o a meter, that they don’t want to bring more attention to themselves? 2

There is even a specially designed place in the fancy packaging for the Tri-X to be positioned.

Leica installed a new pressure plate and the issue was fixed. The film scratching issue seems to affect all current in production film M bodies. "I can see it through the leather, it's right there!" I’m fairly certain I’ve seen a picture of the MA with the leatherette stripped back showing a piece of metal covering the unused battery chamber, ie the MP and MA share the same body. Can’t remember if it was here or elsewhere, but some were complaining about the indent caused by the patch being visible as unevenness in the leatherette.
