I just shot this about 45 minutes ago , was a parade that my daughter was in but 35 cron asph at f2. see it has nice everything but a touch of contrast that I would like to reduce a little and maybe a touch more bokeh, reason I was thing the version IV. Now this is not worked at all either and i can fix a lot but bokeh you can't fix. The sun is just brutal here and these nice softy looks i just cannot get with this light

lct: The swirl seems to come from under-corrected coma, and under the right circumstances it is visible in the mid-oof highlights, the heads of the coma "comets" all pointing toward the center of the lens.

Guy: Great example for comparison. The 35 Cron Asph is a stellar lens. Not that it has bad bokeh, but compared to the pre-aspheric lenses, the added contrast can "roughen up" the Bokeh visibly, especially in the already higher-contrast areas of the image. And I agree totally: you can correct for a lot of things, but bokeh isn't one of them :)

Cheers,

Exactly Jack and this is part of my dilemma living in the Southwest the bloody sun is so bright it really cramps your style. Folks that live in overcast and wet climates don't realize how good they have it photographically. So for me i need to think a little different and this version IV is making sense.

Luckily i will see you on Monday and i can try yours out and see what it can do for me. Jack and I will be testing a few lenses out together. I maybe mixing up my bag a little but want to be sure first it is what I need. The one beauty in all this is you can find lenses with certain character to achieve the look you desire, man is it nice to be able to have choices

It's not from a scanner, but from the M8, and i have to pay 190$ in between for trading with my Cron with the Lux, i'ts not much but i'm still not sure what to do... does this seem to be the right price for trading a Type 4 35 Cron with a Type 2 35 Lux...?

Thanks again.. :-)

(And this images are just test images, nothing fancy i know :-)

I have the Titanium Pre-Asph 'Lux, and love it. No blowing out at the edges as some have said, and actually feel it draws better images on the M8 than it does on my M6TTL. It is a low contrast lens by Leica standards, but produces very nice images. The hood is a bit weird, as it rotates, and can be mistaken for the aperture ring tabs as its mounting tabs are very close to the aperture ring. But with the filter tray built in it takes 49mm filters just fine, so you can mount a IR filter if you shoot color.

I'm starting to give some thought to this lens.

Right now, I'm using a 35 summicron IV paired with a 75 lux. Most of what I do is b&w. I'm wondering how useable the lux is wide open. I don't need (or even want) absolute sharpness.

I seen it written that the titanium version might be the best in terms of performance. I wonder if that is true.

I have the Titanium version and love it. I got it as NOS at half of its new price, probably still too much, but have enjoyed it very much, and it seems to draw better with the M8 than with my film M6TTL. The titanium finish is a real visual joy when mounted on a chrome M body. A small lens which makes for a small combo to carry around. It is my standard lens for the M8, with the new 28 Elmarit Asph a close second. The 28 is sharper, and higher contrast lens, but with its size, it is a great combo withthe 'Lux and the M8.

Late 35/1.4 (from 3,4**,*** to 3,6**,*** AFAIK but ask Jack Flesher or Sparkie to be sure) behave like the late Lux 50/1.4 with a bit less sharpness and contrast, but also more flare mainly at full aperture. If you do much BW i would take the Lux if i were you, otherwise remember that Leica don't code the Lux so its up to you to check if you risk some cyan shift with it and an IR-cut filter.

No cyan shift with the 'Lux and ir filter, I use the Leica 49mm filter in the 12504 hood filter tray. Not seen any flare with my Titanium 'Lux.

I have a 1,4/35 from the 70th. It is a really great lense, and it is even better on the M8 than on the M6. On the M6 1.4 has low contrasts. On the M8 it is much better. Here afoto with 2.0 on the M8.
