guidomo Posted October 11, 2007 Share #1 Posted October 11, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) The latest LeicaBeiMeister newsletter just arrived, advising that, as I understand it, the following lenses will be discontinued: - Silver Leica Elmar-M 2,8/50mm - Silver Leica Summicron-M 2,0/50mm - Silver Leica Macro-Elmar-M 4,0/90mm - Black Leica Elmar-M 2,8/50mm - Black Leica Elmarit-M 2,8/90mm Pretty much in line with what many had been predicting, but it is still tough to see it confirmed. Further of note, Leica seem to be tightening their grip on the brand name, prompting the above company to rename themselves to "Meister Camera". Looks like the black 90/4 escapes slaughter because of the macro connection... The original list of codeable lenses from June 2006 had 20 lenses plus the macro adapter. 7 of those lenses have now gone, to be replaced by the WATE, the 28/2.8 and the 4 Summarits. Sorry I don't understand your above statement. The list is still valid, all the lenses on the list can still be coded (IF they aren't already coded). And to my knowledge the WATE has NOT replaced any fixed FL lens. The 21/2.8 is still being made and Leica never made a 16 or 18mm lens, at least none that I know of. It may of sold well in years past. I bought a black collapsible 50 just before the summer. Its a lovely little lens, and collapsed on camera is really neat and easy for carrying. Luigi, you may well know that, but if you don't it is well worth knowing that the macro adapter was and is only made in black. Which is why I bought my silver Macro-Elmar without the adapter... Which is why I bought my silver Macro-Elmar without the adapter... Cheers, Andy Gosh... I didn't know... thanks for the info. I'll rethink my macro strategy... ... maybe I'll continue with the Viso... my TE 135 head is OK, so as the venerable 3 elements Elmar 90 head... and for 90 std. my TE 90 first version is quite good and almost compact as the Macro-Elmar retracted... and above all I still haven't a 75... let's wait for Summarit tests.. In any event there are some Leica M lenses that Leica WILL NOT code. Like lenses that have the focusing screw threads go into the mount. Lenses that have thick mounts and mounts that have a lip on them that covers part of the base housing of the lens and some lenses that the mount looks to be milled into the actual lens housing, no screws visible to remove the mount. It's not that these lenses can't be coded, you can hand code them or send the mount to someone to mill in the recesses for the coding, but Leica won't do it and there are NO listed codes for these lenses, because Leica never even thought about coding these lenses.
