JasonSF Posted October 11, 2007 Share #1  Posted October 11, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi all,  I am thinking of buying an R9 with DMR. Some questions.  I assume there is no 'live view' and I know there is no auto-focus. So how easy is the R9 to focus? Does it have any focus confirmation. I do wear glasses and do not always find it easy to manually focus at speed.  what is the sensor size? Are the lenses still 35mm or is there a crop factor.  Thanks  Jason

dfarkas Posted October 11, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted October 11, 2007 The R9 is super-easy to focus with most lenses. I can usually focus more accurately and faster with my DMR than with most AF cameras. The ground-glass screen helps alot here. Others seem to like the large microprism screen. Â The sensor is 1.3x crop and the focusing screen shows the crop marks. Â Good luck. The DMR is a great camera. Â David
dave_d Posted October 11, 2007 Share #3 Â Posted October 11, 2007 I wear glasses as well and I find the R9/DMR easy to focus especially when I replaced the standard eyecup with the large eyecup made for eyeglasses. Compared to my Nikon FM2the R9 finder is brighter and sharper across the entire field of view making it faster and easier to focus.
topoxforddoc Posted October 11, 2007 Share #4  Posted October 11, 2007 Hi all, I am thinking of buying an R9 with DMR. Some questions.  I assume there is no 'live view' and I know there is no auto-focus. So how easy is the R9 to focus? Does it have any focus confirmation.  Jason, it's old fashioned manual focus, but the viewfinder is pretty good for a modern SLR (but not as good as a SL2). No focus confirmation (you can use your eyes for that)  I do wear glasses and do not always find it easy to manually focus at speed.  I wear glasses or contacts - no problem with focussing. Either buy the Leica large eyecup (or email me of you want to buy mine) or a viewfinder magnifier like the Brightscreen VF magnifier. This is really helpful esp for longer lenses where the DOF might be shallow.  what is the sensor size? Are the lenses still 35mm or is there a crop factor.  The sensor is a 1.37x crop. The sensor is the easiest sensor to clean - just take the back off and clean - no messing about with bulb settings and sensor wands.  I'm really pleased with my R9/DMR. With the curent V1.3 firmware, it's pretty good. Just shoot RAW and tweak things like WB later if needed. The images out of the box are super.  Thanks  Jason  Good Luck  Charlie

hunterits Posted October 12, 2007 Share #6 Â Posted October 12, 2007 Jason: Â Charlie pretty much said it all. I also wear corrective lenses and have no problem with the focus. Just love the camera/lenses and stopped shooting my Nikon (D200) system and switched to Leica and extremely happy with the switch and the DMR. It is simple and fun to use.
