I was fortunate to get it because "UPS Economy" left it outside my front door... Could have "gone walkies". I can't find a registration card. Should there be one? Other contents / docs including warranty card were present. Does Leica cellophane (saran) wrap its boxes. Mine wasn't .. Just wondering. This is my first SLR of any kind. It's big. S'pose I'll get used to it. Have attempted the firmware 2.0 update and failed. Does anyone know of instructions (for Mac) other than those from Leica? How does one format the SD card in the camera? I'm at the bottom of the learning curve and somwhat daunted. It'll be Auto for a while. Is it normal for the Digilux to clickety-clickety-clack when taking a shot. Throw me a life belt. Thanks. John. jdlaing Posted October 6, 2007 Share #2 Posted October 6, 2007 They do not celophane wrap. Registration Card should be there........contact Leica. What country did you buy it in? Mac I do not know. Updating should be the same as PC.......thru the SD card. To format the SD in camera.......press the Menu button and go down the list to the last little icon......the arrow one.....and scroll down that menu until you see Format and Voila! Try this first before you fiddle wit the settings: Take a couple of pictures with the normal factory settings and load them on your computer. Then set up a "My Film Mode 1" with the following settings: Contrast = Center Sharpness = one notch to the right Saturation = one notch to the right Noise Reduction = All the way to the left. Load a couple of these pictures on your computer and see which you like better. Welcome to the club and enjoy the new camera. cwf Posted October 6, 2007 Share #4 Posted October 6, 2007 A couple of comments, which I hope are helpful, on the firmware upgrade. 1. Take some pictures with the camera as shipped before upgrading the firmware. This way you'll know everything is fine (or not) before the upgrade. 2. As to the firmware upgrade, the Leica instructions are complete and accurate. But they must be followed exactly. I'd suggest that the card reader option (in the instructions, a little hard to spot) might be easier, just as using a card reader to transfer images to a computer (Mac in my case) seems to go better, at least for me with an M8 and a Digilux 3. One key to making the firmware upgrade work: be sure to copy the update file into the top (root) directory of the SD card. I've found that doing this when I am not hurried makes it go easier. goodbokeh Posted October 7, 2007 Share #5 Posted October 7, 2007 I purchased my Digilux 3 last month after a two month wait. The box did not have cellophane nor a registration card. It was marked configured for the EU with multi lingual instructions. The Leica Loyalty Certificate I used did have a registration number, my name and address and the dealers name and address, so I assume that will makes its way to Leica USA. I shoot JPEGs and my custom setting is sharpness up two and contrast up one with color on standard. BTW, Leica USA is sending me a free lens cap for the 14-50 when mine was scuffed up from a drop. Although I really love the M8, the Digilux is mighty handy for fast work. The upgrading was simple (after being man enough never to read the manual and trying it out as I thought was OK): stick EXACTLY to the instructions (put the update in the root of the card), etc. The only thing I don't like about it, is the noise it makes while shooting. Especially when using live view (which in itself is great), it's rattling and clicking so loud, you can't really use it in confined situations. I almost got kicked out of a classical concert ... The Leica Digilux 3 is barely noticeable compared to the Sony. Naturally the Sony is not particularly a benchmark setting camera either.. but still. On the first shot, I thought his camera was faulty, after the second shot, I thought it was going to explode......but it continued, thereafter I realised how quiet my L1 is compared to others dSLRs. on a separate occasion I was on a bush walk with 15 others who were using various Canon and Nikon SLRs....out disturbing the forest silence. I chose to use my D2 with Macro, on this occasion, the other users were all over me when they realised how quiet my D2 was. They initially thought I'd just brought the camera along for "show" as they had not heard a "click" from it. When I scrolled through my images..... they were incredible conscious of shooting well away from me there after. I had downloaded the update file a couple of times onto my Mac... Download more than once and the computer adds numeric extenders... As some of you commented... One must be EXACT...The only acceptable filename via Macs is: DL3_200.bin Thanks also to "Mark" in Leica's North American tech department for getting me on track. Visions Posted August 29, 2011 Share #12 Posted August 29, 2011 Hello All! This is my first post. I just inherited a Digilux3 from my Father, and I must admit I was not that impressed. A heavy, chunky-monkey, and a bit slower than my Nikon D7000. But then I started to take pictures... Of course, there is a learning curve, which I am still working on, but oh are the images beautiful! I have shot mostly B&W and I am simply blown away with the crispness (is that a word?) and overall saturation from black, gray & whites! So, now I am trying to update the firmware to 2.0 and am having difficulty. I have a Mac, have created a temp. file which holds the down loaded and unzipped application, but cannot down load it to the SD card in the camera. Can some one walk me through all the steps? First of all welcome to the forum ... and to the D/3. The most simple way to download the new firmware file to the card is to use a card reader. I remember a couple friends having some trouble in doing so by hooking the camera to the computer, not sure if this applies to you, but for them the card reader bypassed all issues. Guess you already have this instruction file, but just in case ... en.leica-camera.com/assets/file/download.php?filename=file_4023.pdf Just one last note. You don't need to connect the camera to the charger, as suggested by the instructions, if you have a good and freshly charged battery. Keywords: "good" and "freshly charged"... Hope it helps.
