luigi bertolotti Posted October 5, 2007 Share #7 Posted October 5, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) The preproductions M3s are well known to Leitz historicians... and for CERTAIN KIND of collectors ($ $) is a dream that can be true... no comments on bids: this is an item that has not a "market price". I suppose that as for the 31 Leica "0" of the '20s, a number of the preprod M3s are in known locations, and... would this be a fake (I don't think, Schouten is a respected name) could be one of the biggest in Leica collecting history. sparkie Posted October 5, 2007 Share #8 Posted October 5, 2007 These null series M3's are Ultra Ultra Rare. This looks genuine. If I'm not mistaken this could be the same prototype that I saw about 3/4 yrs ago in Germany. Lars Netopil had it for sale and he said it was worth over $US 100K. That was before the dollar dropped to its low as we know today. Look at all the original features. They are SO EARLY. Even the Leica script is Olde Square corners on top edges of top-plate, squared corners on the baseplate even. Funky advance lever, early proto counter. Each of these have varying features between each prototype camera. It is spectacular, when you look how well made it is. This camera should belong in a museum. Its THAT unique and historical IMHO. Pity an early prototype 5cm summicron isn't in the auction. The one Lars had mounted had a unique double infinity lock design. Marco has had all sorts of rare gear. I tried out one of the 15/8 hologon's he had on him on my M6TTL while we were going about some camera shows in Germany a few years back. He's had original MP sets and black paint cameras/lenses. These are very rare, but pale in comparison to these Null Series cameras and the likes of an MP2.
