Advertisement Posted October 2, 2007 Posted October 2, 2007 Hi sparkie, Take a look here second M8 body - why?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Kent10D Posted October 2, 2007 Share #42 Posted October 2, 2007 I imagine Japan must be a wonderful place to take pictures, just another world. Manuel, you know how contact me. Let me know when you finalize your plans. I think you'll be surprised (hopefully not disappointed) at how much like everywhere else Japan has become. At least on the outside. And Riccis, Anything specific that you could tell us about, or just a "doesn't feel right" type thing? Admittedly you run the risk of being flambéed for voicing any dissatisfaction with the M8, but I think some of us are seriously interested. At your discretion, of course. jaapv Posted October 2, 2007 Share #43 Posted October 2, 2007 Jaap ... it figures that you'd travel all the way to Africa for a close-up of lion fangs ... Kurt This Granny had not too much fang left, but still....
Printmaker Posted October 2, 2007 Share #44 Posted October 2, 2007 As I do not use the M8 for work - yet - I have not needed a back up body. P I'm with you! As I write this, my BetterLight/Toyo is shooting paintings (15 minute exposures) and later will switch to sculpture. My Fuji will be shooting hand carved boxes and tiles this afternoon and my Nikons will go for a boat ride later this week. My M8 waits patiently at home for Sunday's hike. If I used my M8 for work, I'd have two M8s... or maybe a new Nikon D3 with my 105 DC to go along with my M8. Tom
Riccis Posted October 3, 2007 Share #45 Posted October 3, 2007 Albert - Up until this weekend's wedding, I have been using M8s and M7s for 100% of my wedding work. I love the files from the camera and its overall performance. Since I have clients all over the world, I don't do proof books at all. Jesh is a very talented photographer and I'm sure you'll get a lot out of his seminar... I love the profound ways he connects with his subjects and the overall romantic feel of his work... Sparkie - Other than some chats with Christian Erhardt and some emails about the Professional Services with some folks in Germany, I have no ties or knowledge about Leica's business or upcoming plans/developments... For that juicy stuff, you may want to talk to Guy Mancuso Kent - Once again, the M8 is great and I am not stating any disatisfaction with the camera or its performance at all. I'm just going back to shooting film for reasons I can't state right now, but I will still continue my wedding work with M7s and film (as you see I'm not mentioning a brand if you can read between the lines) I will definitely continue to participate in the forum, hope this is ok with my fellow M8 shooters. sparkie Posted October 3, 2007 Share #46 Posted October 3, 2007 so you're saying you don't mid the development downtime and scanning time/costs? do you scan the film yourself of get a lab to do it. what scanner do you use if you scan it i wish you'd tell us why you prefer using the film M's -- better dynamic range and a more film feel, plus no crimping and peeping at the lcd ? Riccis Posted October 3, 2007 Share #47 Posted October 3, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Sparkie - My lab Richard Photo Lab (Richard Photo Lab) takes care of everything. In a week or two after the wedding, I receive my negatives, proofs and high-res scans. If I ever have have a problem, all I have to do is pick up the phone and speak to the owner or the person handling my processing. I don't mind the development time or costs since I either pay to my lab or spend a lot of time editing in the computer... Also, my creative fees are at a level where I can afford the $500 - $1,000 lab fees per wedding. To my business, the time saved away from the computer is better used for marketing, networking with other vendors, high end wedding coordinators, magazine editors, etc. I was never a chimper, so that is not something I will miss and still love the feel of film, but what made me go back is definitely the workflow... Again, there are other reasons that I can't state right now, but it has nothing to do with the M8 (which I still think is a great tool) and more with some partnerships that I am entering into... marknorton Posted October 3, 2007 Share #48 Posted October 3, 2007 Tell me Riccis, now that you are going back to using film, will there never be a time when you lie awake at night after a wedding and ask yourself: Is there any way, conceivably, I might have screwed up? Chimping does have some benefits...
Guest guy_mancuso Posted October 3, 2007 Share #49 Posted October 3, 2007 Riccis as a pro , completely understand the time behind the key board. But there are services where you can have them do all of the work from digital also , just hand over your cards or a portable hard drive and they do everything for you.so there are some options out there although limited to certain cities and such. Riccis Posted October 3, 2007 Share #50 Posted October 3, 2007 Mark - Since I was never a chimper (I have the camera set to not show an image after taking a shot) this never applied to me (even with digital)... The reason why I took this approach is because I found myself missing a couple of beautiful moments after wasting my time looking at the LCD screen. I am very confident in the way I shoot regardless of the lighting conditions and the only reason to be worried is if a card gets corrupted beyond repair or if I lose a roll of film. Guy - I know I can outsource some of my digital work, but there is a certain color that I like to achieve in my files that I will still have to do some work by myself... I can tell you more offline about my reasons to switch if you are interested, but once again, my going back to film has nothing to do with the quality of the M8... I've said it before and I'll say it again, I love the way the camera works and the look of its files and even have convinced a couple other weddings pros to start using it. Cheers, Riccis
marknorton Posted October 3, 2007 Share #51 Posted October 3, 2007 Certainly the case that spreading your images across multiple rolls of film is better than relying on a few N Gb cards to preserve your revenue and reputation.
