Leica:  "Geotagging only works via Leica FOTOS and only available for Bluetooth cameras. The Bluetooth function of the Leica M11 is expected to be activated with firmware version 2.xx , which is planned for end of the year 2022, please be patient."

Fair enough, but any sign or Beta versions yet? I am trying to be patient 😇🙏.

Speaking of beta, any idea how to become a beta tester for M11 firmware? I assume it's an invite only program? Some companies like Apple do public betas and developer previews, but I haven't seen anything like that with Leica.

I assume it would be the same network of people that receive pre-prod copies of bodies and lenses to test, but we will never know.... those who do cannot tell us 😉

It might be. I would assume that the pre-prod testers (hardware) are a smaller group than firmware update testers. I would definitely sign up to be a firmware tester if I could. Maybe someday!

I had the same reply, almost word for word, with my last interaction with Leica support last month... I have my doubts that we'll see this update this year still if it doesn't come by month end...

Honestly, I just hope they fix the bugs rather than introduce a feature that has had very mixed results on many of their other cameras using the app for geotagging.

You can tell in Your forum profile that You want to get a beta tester. I am one myself. At every test we are a group with different members.

Based on the threads here, we can safely say if you bought an M11 you’ve in fact been a BETA tester for about a year now 😅

All this update needs to do is fix all these really bad bugs with dead and frozen M11 cameras. The last thing they need to say is they are giving you new features. Just say; we are sorry to everyone with a dead frozen lagging or intermittently not working M11. We are fixing it once and for all.

My M11 is so good that i will think twice before updating the firmware but Leica will take its time as usual and i doubt any firmware update can fix dead cameras that should be replaced or refunded immediately under the Leica or legal warranty.

Firmware updates can’t fix dead cameras. They’re dead. But if they fix the software we wouldn’t have the daily threads of “I just bought my M11, it worked for a few hours and then it’s dead”… They can’t ALL be hardware issues. After a year! We just had 2 or 3 today.

This is becoming a very sad section of the forum. I expected it the first couple of months but a year later the M11 sub forum is very sad indeed.

Ha, I have faint memories of an Ex-newbie who argued for quite a while that a 60MP camera, a.k.a. the M11, would not be any good 🙂. So the M11 must indeed be a very good camera.

Hehe i did not change my mind. I find the M11 (at least my copy) overall my best M since the seventies but i mean within its limits i.e. a high res camera sans IBIS.

well there is a difference between beta tester and beta user.

I you are a tested Strat detail reporting to Leica so that they can reproduce the issues and but can be resolved and everybody is happy.

thank you for doing your part.

Well, this is what the last update addressed.

Based on the daily threads here the testers are obviously not a big enough sample size.

You should know that Leica Germany has a support email address you can use to illustrate your issues.

I have done this many times and got some fixes true.

you should know that the firmware description does not cover all the changes made.

I’m basing it on all the threads we are still getting on here. That was released back in August. It’s November now.

If they fixed something else then those things should have been the priority. Not a bad jpeg problem. This one should’ve been the silent update. It should read

“Fix an issue where the M11 becomes frozen or unresponsive”.

“Fix an issue where people may encounter an Orange Light of Death”.

“Fix an issue where the shutter seems inconsistent”.

“Fix an issue where the camera intermittently does not detect a lens”

Instead the most important 2 updates listed were “Jpeg isn’t pretty enough” and “lenses may have the wrong name”. 😅

There it is… Never fails 😅

Hehe i should have said since the fifties since my earlier M is an M3 DS but historically i got my first Leica in 1971. Superb M4 with a Summicron 50/2 v3. Too bad i did not keep them but i still have my M3 DS.
