fursan Posted September 29, 2007 Share #1 Posted September 29, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) forum members helped me by giving me advice re: m cameras. they provided a link to an ebay item. 1. lovely leica on ebay 2. registered on ebay 3. got paypal authorised etc. etc. 4. made the one and only bid for this item on ebay. also contacted seller if he/she could send the item to Saudi by fedex for extra payment. 5. i receive notice that my account was suspended because, while not accusing me of fraud, SOMETHING in my bid/registeration/info etc. made them associate my type of transaction with fradulent transactions. 6. I have had it. maybe it is to safeguard us, but they say i cancel anything I have ' listed'. I don't even know how to navigate ebay yet! 7. I have asked them to cancel my registration and advice me that all my personal info with them has been destroyed. What else can I do. I feel insulted and accused. while I am not accusing ebay of bias and racism there actions seem to trigger my indicators of such activity.

doubice Posted September 29, 2007 Share #2 Posted September 29, 2007 Fahim, Make sure that the email you received is a genuine eBay email. If genuine, the email will address you by your own name, not by 'dear eBay member' or something similar. The email will also appear in your "My eBay" page. Never respond to eBay emails which do not address you by your own name and which you cannot also read in your 'My eBay" page. If you have not set up your "My eBay" page, do so. There are many fake (phishing) emails sent out; I get them all the time. These emails try to obtain you password by claiming that your account has been suspended etc. etc. I don't know if this is what happened in your case, just an idea..... ron110n Posted September 29, 2007 Share #3 Posted September 29, 2007 Fahim, Be careful with those email. "<< Never give any information or even mere reply, or click any links>>" Forward that email to this address spoof@ebay.com Ebay security will reply to you if the email you received is genuine from eBay or fraud. All emails you receive from ebay should apear on your "my ebay" inbox. If not, they are bogus. I get fraudulent email regarding my eBay and paypal account monthly. I always report them and hope they go to jail, "inshala". -Ron ________________ Caveman's Gallery Neolithic Artistry

fursan Posted September 30, 2007 Author Share #5 Posted September 30, 2007 Jan, appreciate your advice. i have closed my paypal account. now to see if i can close my ebay account. maybe shall open another one at a much later date, if the leica lust persists. fursan Posted September 30, 2007 Author Share #6 Posted September 30, 2007 Ron, Thanks for your suggestions. While I might understand their concern for security, I too am concerned about any suspicion regarding my integrity. I am not prepared to trade my integrity ( or questioning of it ), by any entity. If someone has a genuine cause to protect everyone's interests, I am prepared to cooperate to the max. However I expect to be provided with a satisfactory explanation for the course of action taken. Ebay, in this instance, has triggered some sort of blanket ' red flags ' applicable globally. Some might say that, with modern security systems, innocent people will come under suspicion. Maybe so. But I am not prepared to accept that a 0.5% patient mortality rate in, say a certain procedure, is statistically acceptable. Just say that to the family of the unfortunate fatality. I have closed my paypal account and shall try to close my ebay account too. I hate using credit cards anyway. If I cannot afford it, I do not buy it against my future income. As a banker, this could be heresy. Agree 100% the guilty should be punished to the maximum extent of the law, while the law should protect the innocent to the maximum extent also. When were you last in these part of the woods? Regards. Fahim, Be careful with those email. spydrxx Posted September 30, 2007 Share #8 Posted September 30, 2007 Fahim - I agree with some of the others...this sounds like either a phishing expedition or perhaps somebody with a similar name as yours created a bad time and was banned from the site. I seriously doubt that you were being discriminated against. I've personally bought and sold camera gear on eBay with Saudi residents over several years with no problems. ron110n Posted September 30, 2007 Share #10 Posted September 30, 2007 Fahim, Here's the sad part about the law. Those animals are from another uncooperative country that require diplomatic protocol and interpol intervention. eBay always forward reports from the US to the FBI Online Fraud Department. But what can the FBI do on anything outside the US. I was hit once for $999 on my paypal account. They didn't get any money since paypal froze the account and funds withrawn, but I sure get the hassel for all the affidavit and bank negotiations to release the frozen funds. I personally want to cut the finger of the perpetrator. Argh!@#$% -Ron ________________ Caveman's Gallery Neolithic Artistry
Philippe D. Posted September 30, 2007 Share #11 Posted September 30, 2007 Hello Fahim, While I might understand their concern for security,I too am concerned about any suspicion regarding my integrity. I am not prepared to trade my integrity ( or questioning of it ), by any entity. I'm not here to support or help eBay in any way, we all got our problems with them. But one you should know, 99,9% of the actions on eBay are done by robots, i mean computers. Human interventions, if needed in case of dispute, comes quite late, very late, some times too late. And if you're new to eBay, take a while to read the help and the Site Map. You could get a lot of knowledge maybe also by reading some forum (Community). There you'll see how many people are worried and what about. And be very careful about those pishing emails. You'll get hunderts of them. eBay is concerned about security, but their own in the first place.
fursan Posted September 30, 2007 Author Share #12 Posted September 30, 2007 Steve, Steve, thanks for your kind advice. However, I think this is my first and last foray with ebay and their kind. fursan Posted September 30, 2007 Author Share #13 Posted September 30, 2007 Ron, what happened is done. I recieved an email from ebay today that all feedback about me or from me about other members is unavailable for viewing.. what cra*p! this after one bid. i will not deal with ebay or their kind again. Unless of course, they agree that they made an unintentional error and apologize. thanks Fahim, Here's the sad part about the law. fursan Posted September 30, 2007 Author Share #14 Posted September 30, 2007 Philippe, I am grateful to you for your advice. Unfortunately, it is very difficult for me to deal with an organisation whose first premise seems to be that you are perperating a fraud. I thank Allah, that I do need them or their kind in my life. Best regards. earleygallery Posted September 30, 2007 Share #15 Posted September 30, 2007 Are you sure the first e mail was genuine, i.e. was it addressed to Dear Member or did it have your userID? If you then e mailed e bay asking for your account to be closed the second e mail is perfectly logical. I've been using e bay for years with only one or two problem cases - which were eventually resolved with help from e bay.
Iron Flatline Posted October 1, 2007 Share #16 Posted October 1, 2007 So fursan, you're insulted, etc. But I still don't know... was it an official eBay e-mail? Or are you angry at eBay when it wasn't even eBay's fault?
ron110n Posted October 1, 2007 Share #17 Posted October 1, 2007 Here's a sample a day after I was out-bid. I checked my eBay inbox and I didn't see this message. I then forward the email to spoof@ebay.com Vola!!! it's a fradulent eBay notice. Let me erase my email in the sample before those animals sell them to the spammers. The links if you right click and check the properties... it's different from what you read. I checked the server origin in my zone-alarm and it says that it's from China. eBay is here in San Jose California. -Ron Caveman's Gallery Neolithic Artistry Welcome, dear visitor! earleygallery Posted October 1, 2007 Share #18 Posted October 1, 2007 Ron, The big give away is that the 'second chance offer' asks you to contact the 'seller' at their e mail address. If it was genuine you would bid/complete the sale via e bay as normal. Also it isn't addressed to an ebay user ID. Easy to spot when you know of course, but new users would be (are) easily fooled. echorec Posted October 1, 2007 Share #19 Posted October 1, 2007 James is right. This email is NOT fom ebay. Sorry to hear about your experience and about closing your paypal & ebay account. Ebay is a really good place to buy and sell camera equipment if you are careful and aware of the "traps".
fursan Posted October 1, 2007 Author Share #20 Posted October 1, 2007 Iron, it was a genuine ebay message. it was posted on ' my messages' at ebay and also sent to my email. it was addressed to me by name and my user-id. it also had the warning that ebay messages use my one's registered name to address the person concerned. i was on ebay live help and they traced my response and said that they would make sure that my issue would be addressed, albeit might take sometime. the point i want to stress is simple. I use ebay for the first time in my life. I have never listed anything on ebay, and i am sure I never will. i only made one bid..just one. i get suspended...ok. just give me a reason. i spent 1 hr on the fone with paypal just to verify that evrything was ok on their end. they said it was and there is no problem on their side. after having live chat with a helpful ebay cs rep., i see that i had another email from ebay saying all my feedback to/from ebay would be suspended. i have never given feedback. just one transaction. sure I feel insulted etc. as you mention. maybe you would't. you are a more patient and better person that i am. i presume people are innocent till otherwise proven so, and i expect others to accord me the same courtesy. maybe you have a different slant on things. I respect your views then, but forgive me for not agreeing with anyone who presumes guilt to start a relationship. it might be strange, but in my part of the world, and specifically within my circle of friends , acquaintances and business and professional associates, our word still is our bond. integrity is not for trade on ebay or anywhere else. all i asked was a reason for suspension. give me the reason or give me an apology. i respect others..respect me or tell me why i do not deserve similar respect. So fursan, you're insulted, etc. But I still don't know... was it an official eBay e-mail? Or are you angry at eBay when it wasn't even eBay's fault?
