satureyes Posted November 9, 2022 Share #1  Posted November 9, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) I've been on a little creative 'hiatus' - working quite a lot but not really using my M stuff at all. I'm looking to see who is the current recommendation for an M6 service. I bought it a few years back and it's cosmetically in great condition but I find the shutter speed dial isn't very easy to move. I think it may need a clean or someone said the pin may be bent but I don't know what the pin is, and I don't want to find out. I think I went to Aperture in London ages ago and I wasn't overly convinced they'd be able to help when I chatted to them. It may well be the way it is but I'd like someone who knows their stuff to take a look and then hopefully fix it. Might be worth giving it a CLA also whilst it's there. Who/Where's the place to go these days?

Huss Posted November 10, 2022 Share #4 Â Posted November 10, 2022 (edited) Before taking it anywhere take a look yourself. Â You will see there is a small philips head screw holding the shutter speed dial on. Â Remove that screw, remove the dial and you should see another slotted screw underneath. Â Slightly loosen that - by loosening it up then snugging it back up but not too much. Â Reattach the shutter speed dial + screw and see if that makes a difference. Any decent camera tech can check this for you if you dont want to. Â You dont need to go to a Leica place for something like this. Â You should be able to move the dial with one finger. LocalHero1953 Posted November 10, 2022 Share #5 Â Posted November 10, 2022 In the UK Cameraworks UK and Malcolm Taylor. Aperture has a reasonable reputation. I would avoid Camera Obscura (there's a thread here with the problems they have caused).

Well f-me that was easy. I remember taking the dial off when I got it to have a look but didn't want to mess. The screw under the dial was quite tightly in there so I undid and re-tightened and Im pretty sure it's made it tonnes better. I need to look at another M6 to compare. I'm very used to the digital M's which have much smoother dials I think. Cameraworks is the place to send Leicas it seems but looks like almost £500 for a full service. I was thinking £250 would be what the cost was. Edited November 10, 2022 by satureyes
Huss Posted November 10, 2022 Share #7 Â Posted November 10, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) Nice! Â In the owner's manual Leica recommends that if you do not use the camera, to exercise the shutter and all the bits that move several times every 3 months. I would just sit there, turning the shutter speed dial for a while to let things loosen up some more. Â I also have an M10 (as well as M7) and those have bigger shutter speed dials which are definitely a lot easier to turn than on my MP which has the same dial as your M6. I would put some film in it, go out and use it, see the results then determine if you need a service.
