johnastovall Posted September 29, 2007 Share #1 Posted September 29, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Oh, what a difference a year makes. Last November, I can't say anything good about the M8 with its IR problem and Leica daring to ask me to put filters on it to fix it. I just ordered my M8 to beat the price increase. A special thanks to Guy Mancuso, Carstenw, Jamie, Jaap, Sean Reid and so many others here who showed me it could work and work like a Leica. I saw here a passion about images and their quality and a recognition of the unique way of seeing which a Leica bring to the creation of an image. So, I'm now joining the M8 family. Yes, I got a spare battery with it. I can use most of my R-D1 kit for a while but I decided to get my retirement gift a little early.

carstenw Posted September 29, 2007 Share #5 Posted September 29, 2007 I am glad you decided to get it after all. It is not perfect, but it is a great camera. So, do you already have your eyes on your "one" lens?
johnastovall Posted September 29, 2007 Author Share #6 Posted September 29, 2007 Leica still dares BTW. But have fun with your M8. Seems like I remember something about, "Who Dares Wins." So, it looks like Leica Dares and I Win...
johnastovall Posted September 29, 2007 Author Share #7 Posted September 29, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I am glad you decided to get it after all. It is not perfect, but it is a great camera. So, do you already have your eyes on your "one" lens? I'm going to work my my exist kit for a while and then see what would be most useful. And I want to see how the new Summarits do.

jonoslack Posted October 1, 2007 Share #9 Posted October 1, 2007 Congratulations John I guess I'm always too willing to jump in with both feet - You are going in with both eyes open, having thoroughly tested the water! I'm sure you'll be really pleased, I've just spent a fortnight in Crete with mine - dust and salt, they performed splendidly (even a few of the shots came out well!). Good Luck
boilerdoc Posted October 1, 2007 Share #10 Posted October 1, 2007 When I saw my first 'pink black' I thought what the..... did I just buy? Filters fixed it. Now I have my second body as of last week. what does that tell you. My Nikon sits in the corner and pouts most of the time now. It just ain't sharp anymore once you've zoomed in on an M8 photo and looked at eyelashes at 100%. Spoiled me for good. It'll spoil you as well. Enjoy. wparsonsgisnet Posted October 1, 2007 Share #11 Posted October 1, 2007 John, there's an anniversary thread in the Pictures/Other section. Perhaps you'll find that you produce images on the M8 so quickly that you'll want to post to that thread. Welcome.
fotografr Posted October 1, 2007 Share #12 Posted October 1, 2007 John, I think you're going to enjoy your M8 as much, if not more, than your retirement.

woodyspedden Posted October 1, 2007 Share #14 Posted October 1, 2007 John, I know you are going to have a lot of fun and create a lifetime of images. I just returned from almost three weeks hiking the canyons of Utah and Arizona (Mesa Verde, Grand, Bryce, Zion and Capitol Reef) and couldn't be happier with my gear. I got one of the first lot of 100 last November 6th and bought a second body in March. I use them hard and have found them to be completely reliable. At 70 years old the light weight is a major plus for me. I actually go out and use the cameras so much more than when I shot either Nikon or Canon. So have fun and shoot in good health Woody Spedden
