Well I just saw on the german internet page that Leica introduces the first change to the M8 - it will be released with a new motherboard requiring also a new firmware (1.108), which will not be for download, as this firmware only adresses the capabilities of the new motherboard.

Guess now its clear why the price has been raised.

Lets see if the firmware of the old M8 will continue to be updated or soon be really outdated.

Lucky I sat by the fence so far.......

What is "the German Internet Page"

People that write on this Forum should as a natural thing inform us of their source instead of giving undocumented statements.

Undocumented statements are not worth wasting one's time on.

Tere is nothing on Leicas homepage, if this is what you mean.

Hummm...

That means "Sudden Death Syndrome" (T2 update) was a problem on the CCD board?

.

No.The T2 update was done on CCD board 1 cameras and CCD board 0 camera's as well by changing one electronic component.

Exactly! Leica just changed the board for a new one with the good component. So why this new (third) generation CCD board wouldn't solve some other problems (eg: green band, vertical lines on the sensor, etc.)?

OK, I agree that there's maybe no a M8 ver.2 comming out, but these hardware changes let me think that the new M8s will be improved. Of course, you (we) can also send yours (ours) to Solms to be repaired if you (we) have persistent problems. They will probably perform a "T3 update" (new CCD board) but you (we) will have to wait for several weeks to get it back.

Personally, I would have paid 600 € more to have this update done.

I'm sure you can see my point.

Dear Mr. de Aguirre,

T2 is a transistor. Here has been a change made and the transistor or I should say the printed circuit will be replaced with the new kind.

Thank you for sending the mail and the detailes about the problem with the lens. I will forward this mail to our workshop so they will have the information when the items get here.

Mit freundlichen Gruessen / kind regards

You are perfectly right, I should hope Leica keeps working on the camera and improving it. The main difference between Leica and some other companies is that they will make these improvements available to their previous customers when it makes sense to do so. Other companies will consider you to have made your bed so you will have to lie on it....

So even if you missed this new component, which probably makes no difference anyway, you are sure to miss out on a row of future improvements whenever you buy the camera. It is an ongoing process which you will have to step into at one point of time.
