Look at it this way : the viewfinder on your camers is a fixed focal length, it crops to the various fields of view by the framelines. Still the perspective is always correct.

yep yep got it thanks jaap and everybody else who have posted :D

but it kinda defeats the purpose somewhat of buying a wider lens. if you say love the 50mm perspective. yes you will fit more in the frame but you will be stuck with the wider angle distortions, slower speed lenses, more DoF, etc.. Seems like a compromised solution to me

I have seen the development of this thread with mounting horror. It is clear that people do not listen to argument, they KNOW, like any other fundamentalist. And they see what they believe. Reason is simply not operative. I'm out of this.

...Ugh, Lars... maybe "horror" is a bit hard, but I confess that me too, when saw the thread growing, cannot escape to think "blah, AGAIN, this old old old issue...."

Actually, it can be an advantage. For example, using faster lenses, you will find them easier to focus with more effective DOF, but with the same light-gathering characteristics. A Noctilux (or even a Summilux) wide open, for example :)

And if you like a 50mm FOV and need to use 35, well, you're not going to miss much with the offerings from Leica and others. And the cropped 50s are also pretty great 65mm FOV offerings.

On the very wide end, using the best part of a CV 12 or 15 makes for pretty stellar wide angles :)

So while normally (in the dSLR world) I might agree with you, on the M8 you have such great lens choices I don't really think you're missing very much.

Having said that, I'd love a "full-frame" M digital as well, if for no other reason than I'm habituated to certain lenses (though, as Jack F. pointed out, they are still more or less the ones I use on the M8, despite the crop, which probably says a lot about just how little a difference the 1.3 crop really makes) ;)

Good points Jamie. Which is why I wont be buying any wide f2.8 lenses from leica anytime soon!. I'll stick to my 35/1.4 and 50/1.4. and yes the VC15 is a fabulous lens for the price. i think that maybe i should put money on more VC lenses. hits the pocket less :D

Some nice work on your site. and I swear you look like Gary Sinise on first glance :p
