Silver or black E46 filter ring for re-issue steel rim?

Just got a call from Leica that they have a lens for me.  Reading the 2 main threads on LUF, it seems that a filter can screw directly onto the lens or to the front a second round hood.  Am I correct?  I always use a clear or UV filter for protection and never use a lens cap.  Wanting to be as compact as possible, I wouldn't use a hood so would get a silver colored filter ring if the filter can directly attach to the end of the lens.

Well, some years ago Luigi Bertolotti wrote here in this forum about the lens: "It flares when you look at it." I laughed when I read this, but I found out when I used the lens, that he was just precise.

One may buy the new version of the 35mm Summilux just because there is so much hyperbolic blabla about it. Though if one wants to use it, the hood is an absolute necessity. Even with the hood you will not be able to avoid flare in many situations, but without the hood, you better forget it.

Maybe the original "OLLUX" hood for the first version of the Summilux has the ridiculous high price on the second hand market because there so many collectors of rare hoods. But may be some of the people looking for the hood just want it because they urgently need it to use their lenses.

Pretty sure an e46 can fit directly in the lens. The first version of the lens (Steel Rim) always allowed for a filter, unlike the V2 pre-asph, so I don’t see why a remake of said lens would eliminate that. The reviewers here also confirmed that there is a filter thread on the lens. Color wise, pretty sure that silver would look better, unless you like to mix black and silver in your lens.

Thank you all. I want to minimize flare so will use the round hood that allows a filter to be screwed onto it. Black rim it is.

Just checked, the lens is delivered with two hoods and one cap for a lens hood. Am I right to assume that the cap is for the round hood?

I don't understand why the round hood itself seems to have a filter thread (al least that's what I have seen mentioned repeatedly). Why not just use the filter thread of the lens? 

Regarding OP's question, I use Heliopan SH-PMC coated protection filter for all my M lenses. They only come in black. I already ordered one for this lens. Leica's latest version of silver filters are silver anodised and don't really match the colour of silver chrome lenses.
