I recently purchased a new 35 Summicron for my M10R.  Very pleased with the lens.  With all of the talk about versions etc... could someone tell me what "version" this one is considered so that I can more accurately follow the 35mm discussions.  Thanks so much.

Well, if it is a brand new lens from the factory it should be the last version of the "normal" 35mm Summicron: Summicron-M 1:2/35mm ASPH. (Version 2 of the versions with aspherical lenses). If it was the Apo-Summicron-M 1:2/35mm ASPH., you'd probably know because of its price.

Otherwise it would be helpful to know the serial number and/or a photo of your lens to give a precise answer.

The Wiki of the forum has a list of different versions: https://wiki.l-camera-forum.com/leica-wiki.en/index.php/35mm_f/2_ASPH_Summicron-M. Though unfortunately it is not quite up to date, since there is a new - second and current - version of the "asph." and the Apo-Summicron is not mentioned.

Hey there👋!

If you‘ve bought the latest iteration with the metal screw-on hood, it’s the Leica Summicron 35mm aspherical in Version II! Version I has a plastic clip-on hood.

If you take the whole lineup since the first 35mm Summicron into consideration it’s version VI.

Here you find an overview: https://www.overgaard.dk/leica-35mm-summicron-M-f20.html

Are there any differences between v5 and v6 apart from the hood and 6bit coding? According to overgaard’s site there isn’t.

Oddly seems B&H only has the old version…

Take anything Overgaard says with a grain of salt.

I’ve been lurking here long enough to know that. Really was just referring to high level specs. Seems the new one has 11 aperture blades vs 9? Just guessing.
