Hi

My problem is that when I stop the aperture down so the image is under exposed and press the shutter button , upon release of the button after the image has been taken the whole evf and the if set the rear screen flashes white, it’s not clipping , clipping is turned off , it does this most of the time , the odd time it will not do it but most of the time it does it

I have reset the camera and for a few pictures afterwards it stopped doing it , then the issue came back

When I first got the camera ( recently) it did not do this

Any ideas

cheers

Sadly is not Roy

Not sure I can afford for it to go to Leica , what a shame as only had the camera a couple of months and love it ..

Does the flash of light in the EVF and LCD screen affect the image captured by the sensor?

I have a new Q3 and have noticed the same thing. When I press the shutter the EVF flashes bright white for a moment before showing the proper image. This has no effect on the recorded image but is a bit annoying. It's similar to what you'd see if you were using a strobe that flashed when you were looking through the viewfinder. I'm sure that it's the EVF going to maximum brightness for a moment before showing the properly exposed scene. I didn't notice this the first few times I used the camera, so I assume that it's some setting that I've accidentally messed up, but I'm not sure which of the settings it could be.

Q3 here and same behavior. However, it only happens in 2fps continuous mode. In single shot mode it doesn't happen. It's not like the entire screen flashes white. It's more like the exposure goes extremely bright for a split second after capture.

I have only had my Q3 for two weeks I have also experienced this.  I can make it happen fairly regularly if I set the lens to F16 (which I rarely do), and it hardly ever occurs at any other apertures.

Just to clarify, I get this flash when I half press the shutter button to focus.  It does not happen after the picture is taken.

Sounds like the dof preview and exposure preview conflicted, at smaller aperture it should display the view with actual aperture upon shootin, which the aperture will focus at wide aperture then stop down for preview, but if the exposure don't match it'll result in full blown preview...

A bit more information.  When the camera is in Highlight Weighted (protection) metering mode the screen flashes white.  If I change to Matrix metering mode, it flashes white and black.  It appears as if it is showing the camera making the measurement of the scene brightness range to ascertain the correct exposure setting.  White maybe to show the measurement of the highlights for the Highlight metering mode and white and black to assess the range from white to black in Matrix mode.  It is definitely something that only happens when half-pressing the shutter button and other than focus the only thing happening would be metering of the scene.

It isn't a big problem, unless it is isolated to only some Q3s in which case it may be faulty units.  There do not seem to be many people reporting it, so either it is being accepted as just what happens or most people do not see this behaviour.

Can't speak to the Q3 since I have the Q2.  With my camera if I am in Manual Mode the camera will disable Exposure Preview when I half press the shutter to begin autofocus.  This causes a quick brighten or darken (depending on exposure settings) of the screen during autofocus.  My SL bodies do the same.
