bayerische Posted September 24, 2007 Share #1 Posted September 24, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have the Leica lens, but I'm a bit interested in the CV nokton 35mm. Mainly for its 1,2 aperture! The 35mm is my most used lens on the M8, whereas the 50mm Lux is my most used lens on my M2. So the 50mm film range is a range that I use the most. I'm not sure I like to trade the 35mm Lux asph for the CV nokton 35mm, the Nokton could be another lens. So I wuld like to hear about experiences using the CV 35mm nokton on the M8 and even better if you have compared the CV against its Leica buddy. Thanks! I tested the two extensively for my review of 35 mm rangefinder lenses. The Nokton compares quite well but is larger and heavier. Cheers,

I don't have the LUX 35mm but a friend of mine has. We've been testing both lenses this weekend in normal use situation. - It's true the Nokton is a big bulkier and hevier than the LUX but not a great deal. - Contrast is a bit better on the LUX wide opened (both at f1.4). At f2.8 both lenses performed very similiar in terms of contrast. At f1.2 and f1.4 I increase "Contrast" with Photoshop (5%-10%) and I get the same results than with the LUX. - Half stop extra is very important to me on a 35mm lens when used in a M8. I used a lot this focal in indoor BW pictures. In these circonstances I don't care about the extra weight and size which, I repeat, it's not a great deal. Besides, I find the camera more "steady" with the Nokton than with the LUX (maybe because diameter size fits better to my big hands). - Sean told me once (other thread) that bokeh it's a question of personal taste. Well, I love the Nokton bokeh. I'm not an expert as Sean but I recommended this lens to all M8 users... even if they have a CRON or a LUX 35. f1.2 for that price is a bargain. . hsw Posted September 24, 2007 Share #4 Posted September 24, 2007 I would have to agree with Manuel's comments about the bulk of the lens. My hands are big and the balance of the camera with the Nokton just feels right. Focusing is very fast and very accurate. I don't have the 'Lux but I couldn't ask for a more creamy bokeh. When I consider the price/performance, I'm very glad I purchased this lens. And the service and responsiveness from Stephen Gandy (Cameraquest) is just superb as well. I certainly recommend it as well and I love the way it renders OOF areas. The size question is a matter of personal taste. I prefer that lenses block as little of the finder as possible and so that, for me, is a real advantage of the Lux. But the simple truth is that they're both great lenses and if one wants to gain a half-stop and save a lot of $$ the 35 Nokton makes a lot of sense. The Nokton also shows no focus shift. T'would be easier to choose if the 35 Lux Asph weren't, IMHO, one of the best lenses Leica has ever made. Cheers, Sean
terrycioni Posted September 24, 2007 Share #7 Posted September 24, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) This is a CV lens that is outstanding on the M8 This was shot wide-open. http://farm1.static.flickr.com/182/397083785_e70fdf7ad1_o.jpg The is a very dark - dimly lit room shot wide-open http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1391/534017393_c182dd84f1.jpg I don't have the LUX 35 but I am totally satisfied with the CV Nokton. I also very much like the 40mm F1.4 Nokton (it is much smaller than the 35 Nokton). Best Regards.
