I feel daft, but here it goes. I went into customize controls in menu, and set up my eight preferred tasks in the FN button for quick access. IE format card, EVF, exposure preview etc. If I press FN, and press again, or hit the enter button in the center of the arrows, the screen goes blank...it seems there is no rhyme or reason but it's dumb luck when I am able to access those functions. I feel like I'm close but missing something. Any assistance I am grateful for.

I’m almost positive I’ve tried that but will get back to my desk and confirm.

If long press the FN dosen't work, you can try to reset the camera settings and try again.

To expand, the way that works is that you first define the tasks you’d like the function button to accomplish.  Then, when you long-press that button, a menu will pop up that contains that list.  Select the item you’d like the button to do, then hit the center button in the d pad to confirm.  From that point on, anytime you single-press the button, it will do that.  Reassign it at any time by long-pressing and choosing another from the list.  It’s not the most intuitive process, but you get used to it.

Thank you! I got that to work though it seems clumsy, and actually getting that setting to change is a task. Kindof defeats the purpose of such a feature haha.

In practice I find I use it just for one function. Anything else I use regularly (which isn't much) goes in the Favourites Menu.

The icons that show on screen? Honestly sometimes it's hard to distinguish some of them. I like EVF / LCD settings, White Balance, format card, exposure preview, and a couple other things handy and easily changeable.

Update....I put my desired tasks in the favorites menu....works great. The function button is as worthless as tits on a bull. Now I finally feel like I've semi-mastered this beast.
