Hello everyone  - this is my first time here so I hope I'm doing things correctly. I have recently bought an old (v1?) Voigtländer 12mm ultra wide heliarr lens with a 39mm screw mount. It came to me with a 3rd-party adapter of I don't know what make, and has worked experimentally with my M6 despite the need for a special viewfinder, which I haven't yet tried to find. However when I tried cautiously to fit it to my M10-R I get the message 'no lens attached'. Is this likely to be a problem with the specific adapter, or is there a more fundamental reason why this doesn't work? I'm feeling cautious in case I could possibly damage the M10-R in some way.

Thanks for any advice you can offer.

PS I assume that in the pictures you sent the right-hand image is of the wrong type of adapter? Or does it depend on exactly where any cutout is?  In any case I was assured by the supplier (Photospecialist) that the Voigtländer one would work. When it's back in stock..

Thanks again for the reply

I use the CV ltm 12mm with a CV 35-135mm adapter on my M10-R (also on my MP).  The 'no lens detected' error seems a bit random, sometimes it crops up, sometimes it doesn't.  I just manually override it in the menu or switch the camera off and back on again which often seems to clear it.

Expect very heavy vignetting, sometimes weird low saturated colours and generally soft images.  It's good for exaggerated and dramatic perspectives but I prefer using black and white film or converting my CV 12mm .dng files to monochrome.

Unless the adapter is damaged in some way or very badly made, you won't damage your camera when using it.  Stick with a known supplier such as CV for peace of mind.
