Firmware 1.108 - not for most of us

Just received an email from M8 support informing us that a v1.108 will be installed in new M8s. Functionally it is identical to 1.107. The change has been forced on Leica as some electronic parts used in the older M8s are not available any more.

Guess Mark has to buy a new one to see what the difference is....:D

Very interesting, indeed. So there's a M8 ver.2... and "as some electronic parts used in the older M8s are not available any more" it's just an excuse to admit it was an engineering problem and some of the problems we have cannot be solved by firmware!

I hate to be right...

And I just bought a second body yesterday!!!

Ah-ah, guys.

Yours is second thread on the topic, but only one minute behind mine, so not bad.

And I see Ed of Atlanta has started one even later.

Maybe the moderators would want to combine these? Naw, let's just see how many people start new threads on the same topic. :p

I don't buy this guff regarding out of date parts. According to my local dealer, Leica have copped a fair backlash regarding the forthcoming price increase. I may be wrong, but I suspect this is nothing more than a means to justify the substantial increase in the price of the M8. And to assist in maintaining order in the second-hand M8 market since ver.2's will now always be worth more than ver.1's. Too bad I just picked up an obsolete ver.1!

It is a nothing update folks . What it is, is cameras leaving the factory will have 1.108 on there camera's some parts are replaced and it is just an update for those parts so it has nothing to do with existing camera's. I actually loaded the beta on both my existing camera's to test and no changes to the camera's . Really i would call it a spec update so please don't read into it as anything else but that. There are no changes to be realized whatsoever on the performance of existing camera's in place today reason it is not a downloadable update. Best advice carry on and not too worry about it. This has nothing to do with a real downloadable firmware update that will make any user changes
