Kent10D Posted September 20, 2007 Share #1 Posted September 20, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Is anyone affixing any kind of personal identification/contact info to their camera(s)? If, for example, you leave the thing in a restaurant and some nice person picks it up with the intention of returning it to it's rightful owner (it does still happen occasionally), where would they find that info? I have thought of pasting a little label inside the base, but it might be a while before someone unfamiliar with Leicas would think to look there. Perhaps something stuck on the outside of the base (still haven't removed the plastic from mine). How about a huge luggage tag flapping in the breeze? Any ideas? I've gone with the label inside the baseplate for the moment - I also put one inside each of my bayonet caps and in lens caps where there is sufficient space
lars_bergquist Posted September 21, 2007 Share #3 Posted September 21, 2007 One self-adhesive label that I had attached to the inside of a lens rear cap came unstuck, did a half-roll and tacked itself to the rear element. Had to hand in the lens to a competent technician. Beware. The old man from the Age of Luggage Tags

Leica would engrave your name (and more) into the body (check out there a la carte service at their HP).
mustafasoleiman Posted September 21, 2007 Share #5 Posted September 21, 2007 I love the idea of a 'huge luggage tag flapping in the breeze' If someone started walking away with your M8, you could flag 'em down in a flash!! I would also attach one of those proximity gadgets that would sound a screeching siren.

jaapv Posted September 21, 2007 Share #9 Posted September 21, 2007 Actually I had Leica engrave my name on the top plate. It was quite practical at the recent Netherlands LUF meeting, as there were chrome M8's all over the tables. I would not be surprised if two turned out to be swithed. Philinflash Posted September 21, 2007 Share #10 Posted September 21, 2007 Let's petition for GPS tracking devices to be built into the M9s when they come. Just Joking!

wparsonsgisnet Posted September 21, 2007 Share #12 Posted September 21, 2007 Actually, in fantasy mode, I have aften wondered it a mugger would allow me to remove the SD card befroe running off with the camera. Only the images have unrecoverable value. I need a better dream life.
jlancasterd Posted September 21, 2007 Share #13 Posted September 21, 2007 One self-adhesive label that I had attached to the inside of a lens rear cap came unstuck, did a half-roll and tacked itself to the rear element. Had to hand in the lens to a competent technician. Beware. Never had that problem in over 30 years of using such labels in all sorts of climate. However, I do remember having problems *removing* the labels from equipment when I came to sell it...
johnbuckley Posted September 21, 2007 Share #14 Posted September 21, 2007 Perhaps you have all thought of this, but I have recently read about the trick of having a name and address card that you photograph as the first frame on an SD card and protect, so that if your camera is left somewhere, and if someone turns it on to review what you were shooting, the first image is your name, phone number and, most important, offer of a REWARD. Just a thought.

Just a thought. That's an old film strategy to recover films "lost in processing". I remember being advised to shoot the card in the middle of the roll so that there was no risk of it being inadvertently shot on the leader. Ah, those were the days. Kent10D Posted September 21, 2007 Author Share #17 Posted September 21, 2007 There are some great ideas here! A couple of good laughs too, and that's such a relief after wading through the v1.108 thread! Hmm ... GPS tracking device ...

bradhusick Posted September 22, 2007 Share #19 Posted September 22, 2007 I use StuffBak labels from Untitled Document. If the person who finds your M8 contacts StuffBak to return it, they get a reward. -Brad
