Fresno Posted October 4, 2022 Share #1 Posted October 4, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) According to Leica Rumors, 1:2/90 11884 may be discontinued. “The Leica APO-Summicron-M 90mm f/2 ASPH lens is no longer listed on the Leica USA website. A website search also cannot locate the lens. The lens is out of stock at B&H and on backorder at Adorama.” I own a APO-Summicron-M 1:2/90 ASPH Safari 11705 (04781256). The BH lens is APO-Summicron-M 1:2/90 ASPH 11884. Anyone know the difference between the 11705 vs 11884? Welcome, dear visitor! SiggiGun Posted October 4, 2022 Share #2 Posted October 4, 2022 (edited) This lens is certainly the next candidate for the new "closed focus" series. The lens is an "older" Apo without FLE witg focus shift for short distance. However it's a perfect portrait lens. Today I use it mainly on the SL2. Well, the differences are clearly shown in the pictures of your own post. The 11884 is the regular black chrome model, whereas the 11705 is the Safari edition of that same lens (different body color, feet engravings in red color instead of orange). Optically, both lenses are exactly the same.
Stuart Richardson Posted October 5, 2022 Share #5 Posted October 5, 2022 https://leica-camera.com/en-int/photography/lenses/m?page=2 It is still listed on the international site... I don't think they will discontinue this lens until it is replaced, as it is still incredibly sharp and high performing. I agree, however, that one of these days it is likely to get the FLE treatment.
