How dangerous is it to update firmware on M10 ?

but many small stability and software updates Leica will NEVER share with you.

Such as? Let’s say you’re correct. Leica can’t share it. It’s a secret. What did you see that improved? What bug did you have that it fixed?

horror stories (we all know them from Sony)

Let’s not do the Sony is a computer thing. Let’s stick with Leica. Just watch the initial 1 minute of the video above.

If you ever contact Customer Care about an issue

Didn’t I JUST say, if you have AN ISSUE then update. I’ve been saying it for the last 2 pages. Maybe you missed it.

they ask because. If you’re having a problem with your camera the first thing you should do is make sure your software is up to date.

if your iPhone has an issue apple will ask you the same thing.

I feel you guys aren’t reading anything I’m saying at all.

Okay. So what improved with your M10? Or does everything pretty much just seem exactly the same after the update?

I wouldn't know if anything had improved as my M10R arrived yesterday and then within an hour I had updated it. :D

You are very confrontational. Not the style of this Forum.

I fail to understand why @Demigorgan feels the need to rage on about firmware updates to the point of it bordering on jihad.

As for my post, I must apologize to one and all for my admonition "to the letter" being in large font and in red.  Next time, I will use the regular size font and green.  Unless that will also cause umbrage.

My point was this:  There are millions (or hundreds of thousands as the case may be) of digital Leica users around the globe, and most likely the majority perform firmware updates with no trouble at all - because they follow the instructions - dare I say it - to the letter (😳).

When two guys out of millions (or hundreds of thousands as the case may be) have a problem, it is an anomaly - and we have to wonder about the cause of this anomaly.

My guess is that either this particular Q2 (M10R in the Fred Miranda case) had a hidden electronic or electrical defect to begin with and the new firmware caused it to brick - or perhaps he didn't follow the instructions to the letter (😳)  and is making "not precisely factual" claims in order to save face.  People will sometimes do that, you know.

Nobody is raging except those replying in giant red letters 😅 … replying to people isn’t raging. It’s just replying.

Hahaha. 🤣🤣 more leica secrets. The hidden improvement updates and The hidden electric fault that only affects updates.

What makes you think this is the first time they updated their cameras? 🤷🏻‍♂️ I bet they’re just like everyone here and update them every time there’s an update. You can ask them yourself. No need to speculate.

The “you’re holding it wrong” defense. Yea. The guy who has an update channel and the computer scientist can’t tap YES and wait for a camera to restart. This is too complicated. 😅 you’re hilarious. You know they’ve updated all their cameras countless times. Just like you. You assume they had an issue so they’ve never updated a camera before.

who is raging on? you already said all this. You’re just repeating yourself. Just stop already and I don’t have to reply with the same replies.

I’ll save you the suspense. NOTHING. That’s why everyone else who is saying there are super secret hidden improvements can’t answer the question what actually improved.

You know this update went successfully when the camera restarts and it’s exactly the same as it was before.

This is the only thing to discuss here. Why is this a thing?

Why does Leica keep improvements secret?

These are the sort of updates I would get from Fuji for example, and we used to get mad that they only said “minor bug fixes” instead of detailing exactly what the bugs were.

Why can’t Leica write “fix of minor bugs” in their notes if there are minor bugs that were fixed? Why is this some sort of secret?

It was suggested before maybe it has SD card improvements or other bug fixes but that this was kept in secret somehow. Because Leica would never share this information with people.

yet. These are the release notes for firmare 1.9.4.0 for the M10. Exactly that  detailed bug fixes and sd card compatibility. Where is this secret information you guys keep talking about?

They even apologized for the mess up the previous update caused with black images right in the notes.

Demigorgan, I am advising you to pause for breath, consider that everything you have to say has been said and that you are coming across as disrespectful and unmannerly to all forum members. It is not necessary for everyone to agree, and we don't, but your style is clearly 'to hammer your point' if anyone disagrees with you.

I disagree with you but that is immaterial. I respect your right to courteous opposition but in this forum you clearly come across as aggressive.

Please change your attitude, especially as a junior member and think respectfully before making responses. Remember, yours is not the only 'truth'.

I ask other posters to be cautious when thing get 'warm'.

Correct. This is what I’m saying. Everyone keeps repeating the same asking the same things so I have to come back and repeat the same things.

I am hardly saying anything controversial. Every user from every camera manufacturer knows at the very least to wait to update because update can cause problems and they’re irreversible (unlike computers).

this is all I’m saying. Additionally the OP has no issues and this is a rangefinder so updates really don’t provide anything groundbreaking. So for him my response is to skip it.

That’s all.

So does Leica keep improvements secret? And have you noticed any with your M10 after this update?

Demigoran, apparently I did not make myself clear. Your constant repeating of your own points is not appropriate here. This is a warning. Stop it or face Moderator action. This is not negotiable.
