hepcat Posted September 6, 2022 Share #3 Posted September 6, 2022 I adore Monona Terrace. I've made many pilgrimages to Wright buildings over the years. It's been some years now since I've been to Madison. Thanks for sharing this!

Wright finished his design in the 1950s and in typical Madison fashion there were discussions, debates and conferences held for decades before a decision was finally made to build it. I have to admit it was worth the wait. The rooftop terrace is easily the most beautiful place in this city to spend a summer evening. 1

Now I may just have to mount another expedition to Madison before the snow sets in just to wander around and take some photos. I've come up for the big bike swapmeet in January a number of times, but it's been probably eight or ten years since I was there last, and I've never been to Madison in temperate weather. Wright's sense of place and relationships to space was astounding. Monona Terrace reminds me mostly of the Marin County Convention Center... not so much in detail, but in size and general "feel." Madison chose well in building it.

war Posted September 9, 2022 Share #9 Posted September 9, 2022 I especially like the first color shot above. Reminds me of the Greek Orthodox Church in Wauwatosa another of his projects completed by his fellowship after his death. Have any images of that one? Never have seen any photos from you of Spring Green which is just a stone's throw.

Never have seen any photos from you of Spring Green which is just a stone's throw. Not Spring Green, but the FLW designed Seth Peterson Cottage at Mirror Lake, WI. I went through my digital files this morning and immediately realized that my Taliesan photos were shot on film and most of my negatives are now with the State Historical Society. I'll dig around to see if any are left here. I shot the interior of his school with about 50 drafting tables set up for students and also was given a private tour of his residence. I hope I still have those negatives. Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members!
