OR120 Posted September 3, 2022 Share #4 Posted September 3, 2022 (edited) Interesting topic. My grandson and I walk along a seldom used road in our neighborhood with our dog. A few weekends ago a cyclist going at a very fast speed came up behind us with no sound, no warning (like a bell), nothing. Our one-yr-old pup was pulling to the center of the road at this moment. The cyclist slammed on his brakes - almost crashing into us. He started waving his arms, yelling at us. It was a wonderful show for the grandson. I suggested (that's putting it mildly) that he use a bell to let people know he is approaching them from behind at his mach 10 speed. We had no idea he was coming. hepcat Posted September 3, 2022 Share #5 Posted September 3, 2022 As a RAGBRAI bike rider, I learned sing out at an appropriate distance "behind you!" and as I approach, "on your left!" quite loudly. It doesn't always work with folks who're rockin' out with ear buds, but they get quite a start as I go around them.
