These are Jerusalem artichoke flowers and are considered an invasive species because they spread rapidly and push out native plants. They produce edible tubers that are very high in potassium and iron and in my opinion the flowers are quite nice. Not bad for something considered an invasive weed. I came across them today while biking a trail outside of my city.

Beautiful flowers, natures way of getting our acceptance for their invasion. I was amazed that almost every flower I saw in Hawaii was invasive, thousands of species. Can't deny it's a beautiful place.

I'm just now emailing a friend who moved to Hawaii a few months ago. He and his family completely agree about how beautiful everything is there.
